Good news - the money you saved on any anticipated repairs can be spent on unleaded...

I am very envious of you - I wish I had a car like that.

Love the 'ceptor. I'd be seriously tempted by one of these if i ever came into some money. Just the right blend of Italian styling, Brummie engineering  Black Country metal-bashing and Yankee muscle for me.

EFA, we get quite touchy about such things  ;)

Seriously I can't think of any reason why I wouldn't want one, just couldn't afford one  (well buying and running) :)

Yesterday, I drove the Pimpoceptor from Islington to Oxfordshire via Camden, Belsize Park to collect daughter and doggy, and Regent's Park.  Motorway cruising very smoothly at 80 (indicated).  The oil pressure is fine, the autoshift is clunk free, and the (Jag XJS) brakes are working better than they have been for ages.  The car is running too cool, so I need to adjust the fan settings using the under-bonnet Kenlowe dial.   I reckon about 14 mpg on the trip (light London traffic, congested M40 with lots of weekend driver dicks tailgating in every lane, short point and shoot blat down country A road to house).  Spotted:  Plymouth Barracuda in Camden Town, 1969 and 1970 Morris Minors on M40 nearside lane.    Photies of post-respray Fabboceptor later!

Crappy photo SKILLZ fail to display new paintwork to advantage.  Wheels already a bit grey with brake dust because, er, well, you know.

If I was to go all Homeric and say "rosy fingered dawn", some of you lot would just assume that I was talking about some hot lesbo porno flick, so I'll just see here's a picture of the Fabbo taken at Harry fucken Sparrows this morning.

Fuggin ace, despite the total absence of mustard yellow colour.

When "Hybrid" denoted a European car with a big bloody Yank V8.

Why was everything nicer and better in ye goode olde dayse?

Except for the dentistry -mustard yellow teeth.

14 mpg is far too economical.............should be around 8 if you're doing it properly..................

Good grief, that's a large boot right there.

After having spent much time dribbling over the 'ceptor on PH I'm glad to see it's happy and well. I don't want to come across as a Fabbostalker but please give it a little stroke from me.

Also, I believe it was that or the RR thread that opened my eyes to the world of Autoshite and for that I thank you. I finally feel like I'm home.

I will give the Fabbo a special stroke right now.

It was my Lancia Beta borking out last year that first brought me to Autoshite, which is an altogether superior place to Pistonheads, which is full of twats, h8trz, Nazis and drivers of modern Audis and other such abominations.  I still hang out on Pistonheads, mainly to be amazed at what a bunch of miserable, moneyed, heartless, right wing fucktards they mostly are over there.  Having said that, some very pleasant people are joining in on the Fabboceptor and Red Rangey threads on PH, but Autoshite is MOAR BETTERER in every way.

The Interceptor really is quite the most spectacular looking car. I love them. There is nothing quite like the Jensen and all-in, I'd say they are my favourite car. The first one I saw was a white Interceptor III J Series which used to pass me on my way to school most days. I loved everything about it; the style, the flight deck dash, the beautiful leather, but most of all the noise it made as it pulled off. It was from a different world to me. They're special things with a tremendous, visceral appeal.

PH is something else isn't it! I'm a member there but I steer clear of the News Politics and Economics section. An hour in there leaves me in despair sometimes, such is the inhumanity.

I have decIded that I am a knob for spending out on silly cars that are good to drive but which I only like, not love, when I should have put all my money Into making the Fabboceptor the bestest mark II in the world.  Interceptors do have some ineffable appeal, even though on paper they are rather crude bitsers.  I have driven cars with sophisticated engines, lighting quick gearboxes, sophisticated suspension, and so on, but only the Interceptor fills me with joy.  My wife hates all of my skanky old cars, except for the Fabboceptor, which she loves with a passion.

As for PH, I sometimes stray into the news forum, and the ignorance, fear, selfishness, and lack of compassion shown by most of the contributors are pretty depressing.    This place is a good antidote.

PS: note nearside exhaust is doing the Won Hang Lo set meal special.  The ground clearance is as tight as a gnat's chuff, and I clouted the exhaust while entering the steep driveway of my hillbilly pad.  I am going to try to fix it up this morning. I have already bodged up the broken wire to the offside tail/brake light using patented tinfoil and blu-tac.  The windscreen is leaking a bit in heavy rain.  Everything else is rocking.

Low slung exhaust now fixed with cable ties. NB: not actually touching the pipe. I'm  a twat, but not that much of a twat.

It would'nt be an interceptor if it did'nt have any issues. Like an SD1 without rust.

As for the cable ties, if the bean counters at Kelvin Way had saw what you have done they would have been standard fitment.

Hellzyeah, those cheap-ass chiselling cunts would have ripped their own gran for two bob.

Ooooo errr, normally smoooooooootho Fabboceptor now doesn't want to idle, and is prone to conkage at low revs.  I will give the enormous mahoosive four barrel carb of American enormousness a clean tomorrow, as it looks filthier than a Latvian Air Hostess, and see if that improves anything.  I may also try screwing, er, the carb screws that is.

I think that it's just yer boggo Carter AVS.   I used to think it was a Thermoquad, but that variant was on later Rustoceptor variants.

Hoorah, carb cleaned and fixed.  A bit worn - the apertures for the mixture screws are too wide - but it's working.

PS:  I saw the bestest everest 1969 Dodge Charger yesterday - another 383/Carter/Torqueflite combo.  I had no phone to snap it.

I fitted an Edelbrock 650 to the Interceptor I used to mooch about in. Once it was set up properly it was excellent.

These big American carbs are interesting bits of kit, and generally easier to live with than the twitchy Brit and Euro carbs of our yoof, although I still perv off on Dellortos.

Hmmmm, the exhaust manifold is blowing again, only two weeks after being replaced.  I will get another bloke to look at it, as the guy who did it last time, although a good all rounder, was perhaps a bit out of his pay grade on the job.

I am currently getting 12 to 14 mpg with mixed country road and motorway driving.  This is utterly shit in the real world, and I have to make sacrifices to the Eco-Gods to atone for my Karbon Khrymes (I am that rare thing, a committed petrolhead and egregious motorcar-botherer who accepts the argument for AGW), but that gas mileage is pretty fooken epic by Interceptor standards.

I have found what looks like a clean Carter AVS carburettor for the Fabboceptor on eBay for a oner.  It is from a 1970 Dodge Challenger (pictured), which shared the 383 Chrysler lump, so hopefully it will either replace the worn original, or the two can be cannibalised to make one good one.

As previously suggested, I'd bin the Carter and fit an Edelbrock [deffo NOT a Holley]

Guest Breadvan72

Isn't an Edelbrock just a version of a Carter?  Are there mahoosive differences?

Posted

Anew Edelbrock will be better than an old Carter, although I thing you're right in the assumption that they are descended from the original.................
