Anyone want a cheap estate? mk4 astra failed sale on ebay

I'm on the cusp of fetching a mk4 Astra estate from a friend who has upgraded* to some sort of Alfa Romeo and has a desperate need to shift her kiddy carrier.

It's a 52 Astra 1.6 8v estate, motd until some point this year, tax for the next few days, 55000ish on the clock. Engine a little tappy and the bodywork is tatty but its a cheap load lugger. All the tyres are good, it starts and runs well, even the a/c works.

Looking for 475 and its in nuneaton

**edit** now on ebay.

##twat## just fetched it, its got 64000 on it!! and also it seems to have a bit of cam tap which the low oil level probably caused. should sort itself with a bit of stp or similar.

there you have it, warts and all! once i've got it home monday i'll know more about it.

I bet an engine flush or two would sort out the tapping. The 8Vs take massive amounts of neglect before they give anything remotely near major trouble.

got it in one. i worked on these for 9 years as new cars, bloody bulletproof!

We LOVE our W reg clunker. It is literally all cars to all men, nice to drive, economical, roomy, it has it all!

I've been running a W reg 8 valve estate for the last couple of months. They are a good all rounder. And the only rust is where it's been scratched. Although my mate who did the cambelt for me said there was excessive crankshaft endfloat

I think this one will be a mulipoint injection, being post 2000?

it is indeed, from memory that makes it a Z16SE. i'm tempted to get shot of my buick (now i've lost out on the red ebay sierra) and keep it.

I know you guys aren't shy on being forward so if you think it's an overpriced shitbox let me know :)

It's an overpriced shitbox.

£200 CASH TONITE ETC

Turns out the top-end tap was in fact a wiped cam lobe due to being run low on oil. Now sat on my driveway awaiting scrapping or a fucking miracle.

What's a wiped cam lobe? Surely lobbing on a new cam and carrier should be a doddle on this.

these 8 valves, when run low on oil, wipe the lobes if left long enough. seen it in vx's and daewoo's. starts at no.4 and works its way across. i'd fix it (peice of piss) but its still a beat up old astra so i'd spuff £100 on ripping it to bits plus loss of earnings from a day off doing it and it would still be worth feck all. got a trader coming up from cheltenham tommorow who reckons he'll gimme £400 for it as it stands, not holding my breath!

sorry tim, a wiped lobe is one that has become flat through wear. :)

Sorry mate, tried to get my Vauxhall apologist cousin interested in this but he aint budging, seems to think that he can get a 2.5 newer shape Vectra or something despite not having worked for something like 10+ years or summat.

Wouldn't mind it myself if I didn't already have too many cars. This would've been the newest car I've ever owned.

Sorry mate, have a free bump.
