Some very un-shite stuff, some borderline shite and one example of utter utter shite.

Shite camera work.

I remember this when it was new.

Not quite sure what this is doing in a bus museum. Nice oil leak though.

Dreadful camera work. SWMBO impressed me by pointing out that 95 was a Fife route so would never have appeared on this bus.

I remember this when it was new too. They made a noise you don't forget, especially pulling away up the hill outside my dad's house.

We went to Dunfermline on this one. Back suspension needed attention I think.

Mini-based, as was this...

That Ailsa bus is a funny-looking bugger, isn't it? It seems to have been built around the radiator grille. I always thought it was a very odd idea to design a double decker bus with the engine at the front. Agree about the noise though - one of the posh schools in Norwich had a couple as school buses until recently (when they replaced them with Plaxton-bodied Leyland Tigers), and we often used to hear them toiling up the hill outside the office bringing a load of boys back from playing rugby or polo or croquet or whatever they play in posh schools these days. They sounded very underpowered too, even compared to the clapped-out Leyland Olympians that still ply a couple of routes in Norwich. That Aussie bus is another weird one. Are the windows that small to prevent the convicts from escaping? :D The whole thing is just odd, from the wide-set headlights to the tapering sides to the letterbox windscreen. Still, much more interesting than the generic Mercedes single-deckers that seem to be everywhere in Oz these days.I do like that AEC transporter. There was a similar sort of thing in another post from a show a couple of weeks ago, wasn't there? Makes me want to get my HGV license so I can buy an old Leyland Roadtrain and a transporter trailer and drag my whole collection of tat to shows.

Dagnammit I missed this AGAIN!! Will not miss the GVVT one coming soon. Some new additions to SVBM since I last visited, and some wonderful non-bus shite too. I've never seen a 2-door type 4 vee dub.The Ailsa is indeed weird looking! It is my favourite bus and possibly vehicle as it was concieved entirely for Scotland, by Scotland and in Scotland. Ailsa Trucks, a Volvo importer based in Irvine, tried to provide the Scottish Bus Group with a replacement for its much-loved Bristol Lodekka. In part, they suceeded and several municipals bought and used them well past their 20th birthdays. The 6.7 litre Volvo TD70 engine is quite small for a bus this size, and its pretty noisy. I love its distinctive Volvo sound though! 8)

Is that VW a 4 door? To me the Ailsa just looks like a normal double decker and all the other ones look odd. It surprises me that they have such a small engine because I remember them being better at climbing hills than other double deckers. I'm sure they had quite a lot of seats for the time too. What were they like on fuel compared to the competition?
