A recent trip with work to France allowed me to take in the French equivalent of the Science musuem - it had an interesting motoring section and special exhibition celebrating 50 years of the 2CV. Didn't manage to get a pic of the crappy XM and 406 that was there, or the very different Citreon Cactus concept though.

Dutch MK2 Granada Binz Limo - spotted this at Ford Fair, not seen a Binz conversion before and this one is rather special and has an interesting story to go with it. It was specially commissioned by the owner of the Heinekein Brewery - Frank Heinekein - it is an armoured bullet / bomb proof limo - GR8 4 WORLD FINAL! Frank was driven around in it by his bodyguard, when the limo was retired he did not want the car to get into the wrong hands so it was taken to a breakers yard, where the present owner managed to save it from the crusher/track. When Frank left the car in the yard he asked his bodyguard to fire his gun at the car, the bullets did not penetrate the glass but the screen is cracked in 2 places still to this day.

Love the Merc, Austin Asomething and Wolseley! Now for the anoraky nagging: isn't the 2CV 60 years old this year and that 403 a 404 and the AX a ZX? And it's Fred (or Freddy) Heineken - shite beer, cool Ford though!

Posted

That Granny limo tantalises parts other Grannies cannot reach!

Merc is awesome...

This is a ZX...not an AX.

michiel - you are correct I didn't see the small print - thought it was your signature!

 Oddly enough my pc shows it like I typed it, tiny, but my gf's notebook shows no difference with the rest.

In the most manly and heterosexual manner possible I'd like to cover you in honey, roll you round in flowers and hug you forever, just for posting the pictures of that Merc.

Merc looks ace with `70s detective hubcaps, maybe it was going to be Frank Drebin`s car in an unfilmed episode of Police Squad where they go to Frankfurt or something. That Fred/Frank Heineken`s a rum lot isn`t he? We`ve heard all about thesepeople that scrap perfectly good cars but it`s not often one of them takes the step of shooting it afterwards.

When it's is a Corsa Convertible!

It's so rare I never knew they existed - there is very little information about them on Google but suffice to say there are less than 100 in the UK, all are 1.4s on a 1998 (S) / 1999 (T) plate. They have a conventional rag top at the rear and a removable targa top on the front. Faded wheel arches come as standard!

Corfu seems refreshingly scene-free. You captured it perfectly with that Mk 2 Escort - it looks like the sort of Mk 2 my dad would remember, when they were nothing special in the eighties and just old bangers. The little Skoda thing is a Felicia coupe. Are you based in Portsmouth by any chance? I recognise that viewing tower thing from when I went to Ouistreham on the ferry. That Kadett Berlina would be worth a fortune in the UK and even more so to the Irish. Those Dacias are all over the Normandy region of France. I hate to agree with Clarkson but I think Renault would sell a ton of them here because they're just a simple pared back new car for the price of a two or three year old motor. Mechanicals from a couple of generations of Renault back, single point injection, airbags and that's about it for technical complexity. Probably some ISOFIX fittings, and top AS points for being available as a saloon. I think the hatchback is the Sandero, oft championed by Mr. James May.Have you got any more of that large Fiat (Argenta) with the boxes on it? It's a qual photo and would look ace with the contrast adjusted and more tightly framed.Welcome to Autoshite by the way.

I think it's a 131 Mirafiori, circa 1978 or so?
