In case you haven't noticed, I am looking to sell my Alfa Romeo 156 2.0 Twinspark and get a misery spec diseasel for my commute.

Well the Alfa Romeo 156 in question has been one of my all time favorite cars, on a par with the Mk1 Fiesta and Lancia Y10. Yep that good.

It looks a little scruffy externally, there is some scrapes on the bumpers and a scrape of about 3-4 inches towards the bottom of the passenger door, both these are pictured. The windscreen is also scuffed by past wiper blades and could so with a hammer taking to it, followed by a call to the insurance company to send round Gavin from Autoglass. It has never annoyed me that mush though so I really couldn't be arsed to do so.

Apart from the screen, I have done quite a lot of work and made sure everything is as good as it can be so mechanically it is very good. It has just had the cam belt, aux belt, all associated tensioners, variator and cam cover changed by well regarded Alfa Romeo specialist 'Autolusso' in Bournemouth. This happened less than 3000 miles ago with receipts to show the work.

It has also had new brake discs and pads front and rear. These are Brembo discs and Ferodo pads all round, so it stops very well.

Suspension wise, it has new upper arms, new drop links and a new track rod end in the past 1000 miles. It has also had all four rear transverse arms, complete with bushes changed at the same time and four wheel tracking done. This combined with both the front tyres being less than 1000 miles old Dunlop Fast Responses make it handle and ride very tidily.

The interior isn't leather, but is clean, incredibly comfy and almost everything works. The only things I can think of that don't work, is the cassette player needs recoding as the code has been lost, the air con needs re-gassing, and the light bulb behind the clock has gone so it doesn't illuminate. As you may well know, it is possible to fit quite a large amount of Lancia Y10 in it, so it is surprisingly practical, despite its non-folding rear bench. Such luxuries as the rev counter and the rear electric windows work. A rare treat in a 156. The airbag light is on, this was due to a faulty airbag ECU which has been replaced and the light just needs resetting.

It has about 110,000 miles on the clock, a fair amount of history, MOT until October and tax until the end of the month.

For all this luxury automobile I want but £950.

I shall now sit back and await the barrage of people wanting to buy it. Or not, considering how my previous attempts at selling cars have/are going.

They're lovely cars, I had one for four years and it was one of the nicest cars I've ever had, but ...... how can I put this delicately?.....

You can't be wanting rid of it that much if you're asking £950 for it.:wink:

ONO.

I'm in no horrific rush as I have yet to get a replacement car. If someone wants it and makes a sensible offer that I accept then they can have it. I have tried to work out what the average 156 goes for through the usual channels, with belts done as recently as this they seem to make about the 900 mark that's excluding the other work I have put into this one just recently such as the troublesome bushes that do enjoy going about once every 30,000.

I know that mechanically, electronically and on the parts of the bodywork that actually matter for structural integrity this one is not very far from being perfect, shame about the front bumper particularly as I know most of the buying public will base the majority of their decisions on how shiny the paint is.

Nice cars. I'm on my second 156 JTD, prior to that there was 155 TS, 33 QV, 'sud QO, 'sud 5M; twenty-three years of ...gah! off went the trumpet there.

I'd hang on in there as you'll be getting offers iro £700 anyhow. They should be worth your asking price. Let the shagged ones run on Mini Metro budgets go for giveaway money.

As Laurence has handled it, it should sell itself with all the work. Did you also place ad on alfaowner?

Honestly NEVER seen one of these without an air bag and/or engine management light on :|

Would love to try a V6 :)

I recommend these cars, although I do wonder if 950 is a tad on the full side, pricing wise.

The only remotely sensible and modern car that I own amidst my collection of chod is a 2001 156 V6 estate. I have owned it since it was three years old. It has been a great car, and I plan to keep it forever. The 2 litre car is, some say, better than the 2.5, because it handles better and does not chew up its front suspension and tyres as much as the V6 car does. Having said that, the classic Alfa V6 engine is a lovely thing to use, and sounds fabby at all times.

My 156 has given me very few problems overall, and still looks good. The engine light did come on once, because some over priced electrical gadget had failed. Apart from that, the car has been great, and the only major expenses have been the cam belts, a fair few new tyres, and a replacement radiator after the orIginal one was punctured by FOD.

The window motors are crap, and the fusebox covers fall off, but, who cares? MPG is about 25 to 27 if you are not a total nutter with the hoonage. The Alfa is so much more fun to sit in and drive than pretty much any Audi, Beemer, Saab, Merc, or Volvo of the same era.

I could get 32 out of the 155's CF1 engine, but not a lot more. They do lend themselves to being on the hoon 8)

I've never had an airbag or Management doom light and any of them. However, the Wife's 146 never gave a blink until I had the dash apart to change bulbs.

The 2.0 is the best of both, the V6, despite the noise and shiny inlets, makes the car a tad nose heavy.

That be true. You can tweak the front end a bit to improve the roundy cornery stuff, but I have never been arsed so to do on mine,

I could have sworn that i just saw a message asking where the car is, but it seems to have disappeared into a black hole.

It is in tiverton, Devon. A few minutes away from junction 27 of the m5.
