Marina advert makes me cry

It is, of course, fairly normal to be looking at adverts for Morris Marinas before 7am on a cold Tuesday morning.

This one has made me go all sad and weepy, as poor blokey cannot persuade his 4 year old daughter that her daddy"s car is waaay cooler than all those modern shitheaps that her friends get driven around in. Or, he might be lying.

PS: my relentless quest to find a car ad that ends with "timewasters welcome" has failed yet again.

If his daughter is that bloody self concious at the age of 4, he has got problems to come! Do orphanages still exist?

yet another very good reason not to have chiodren. My mate and mechanic has a son who hates older cars and vans. I say good luck with him buying and more crucially insuring a new car....

My daughter is eight, and loves all stinky and broken old cars, bikes, aeroplanes, etc.

If the daughter doesn't like being driven round in a Marina then she's going to have a fit when she realises there is also a three piece suite dumped on the drive.

its just the way I see it, is you dont know what you are getting when you have em. Some kids just turn out wrong despite the best efforts of the parents. I just wasnt prepared to take the 20 year chance on it. Come to think of it you would get less time for murder.....

My eldest is four years old, she "quite enjoys" my 2cv - although it's apparently "very noisy":

I can't believe that a 4 year old is so self-conscious, I blame society/the government/parents * delete as applicable, I couldn't care less tbh ;)

It's a second class ride or a first class walk.

Little shit probably thinks a Nissan Quashqui is cool. WRONG.

Do you think that the three piece suite would be more reliable and re sellable than the Marina? There is something pretty fabulous about having full on poundland value style lounge furniture on your drive, and you could probably get at least a whole pizza and a few coins out of the sofa if you had a rummage.

The guy does appear to be somewhat deficient in the marketing nous department, as, if the Marina is nearly as good as he claims, it is probably worth about 2K to the right buyer in the current state of chod fashion. A 900 quid two owner non rusty Marina with an MoT could make some fool very happy.

In the 70s, my uncle was a Tool Maker at an engineering firm in Coventry. Every year, he bought a brand new blue Marina, with the top spec. He put his golf clubs in the back, and parked the car outside his tailor while being fitted for uber sharp bespoke suits.

My dad had stopped being a Tool Maker at Lucas, and joined the stressed and salaried ranks of junior management at Rootes, and later at BL. Every year, he bought some rusty piece of shit that broke down 19 times a week. He put his DIY tools in the boot while moonlighting on his second job fitting out curry houses. He bought crappy off the peg suits, which got rumpled anyway, as his third job was as a bouncer at one of the curry houses.

When we went to my uncle's spacious house near Warwick for the weekend, we had steak. At home, in our crappy suburban semi near Birmingham, we had mince.

Uncle - working class manual worker. Dad - middle class professional.

Still makes me fond of Marinas, though.

The blue one looks lovely...how much was it?

the car and classic one will no doubt be being Doctored at this very moment in time and will appear on Ebay in a few weeks.

The owner of the blue one was asking 900 quid for it. If the car was as good as he suggested, then he could sensibly have asked about double that given the current state of Marinaworld. Someone may have bitten his hand off with a view to getting at least a few hundred quid in quick profit.
