chaseracer Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Chaps, the rear-wiper motor on the Blingo has packed in. The main stealer wants nearly 200quid to fix it. It's an '03 Multispazz, so that's probably about what it's worth. Any helpful suggestions on where to source a motor, the better to facilitate a more financially acceptable solution? Thanks in advance
dollywobbler Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Given that it's French(ish), are sure it's the motor and not the wiring?
chaseracer Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 I did wonder that! Blown rear motor not an uncommon problem, apparently...
chaseracer Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 Remove it and put a blanking plug in the holeThanks for that, Dick - you have inspired me to edit the OP...
Albert Ross Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Paint the windows a similar colour to the bodywork, or fit a commercial style window grille with no vision through it.... Who needs to see behind them any way?
dollywobbler Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 More seriously, trying scrapyards seems a logical next step, if you're sure it's the motor.
ruffgeezer Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Way I see it you have two choices; 1) Sell it to me 2) Pull the panel off of the hatch to access the motor, disconnect it and see if you have power there when the motor is operated, if not it's likely the wiring to the hatch has broken. Motors are typically about £25 second hand, but a lot of them are riveted on, so if you go to a scrappy to get your own, take a decent sharp chisel to remove it!
chaseracer Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 Ian: it may come to that! RG: cheers - I'll check that first.
Louise2cv Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Hi Dave, My dad has a similar prob, but I think he reckons a gear or something has stripped in the motor/linkage. take the motor with you as he has had no luck at scrappies, there seems to be lots of different motors available. (this is all according to Pa, I can't believe it can be that hard to make one of them fit, but that's what he says ). His is a 51 plate I think, right atthe end of MK1, so maybe yours'll be an easier fix. Would scrap Pugs be worth a look too?
messerschmitt owner Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 sell it and buy one with a working rear window wiper!
Micrashed Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Im fairly sure the same motor off the ZX, 306 and Xsara rear window will fit (as will the Xsara picasserrole), its the linkage assy which differs between cars. Of course I could be spouting bollocks, but the non working one on the ZX I had was replaced with one off a later Picasserole, and it worked.
Richard Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Is the spindle seized up? I've had that on a couple of cars lately, one of them a Citroen. In both cases I fixed it by dismantling and cleaning/lubricating the spindle.
Guest Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Check the wiring hasn't popped out of the loom connector. The C4's connector block did that.
