michael1703 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Bit of an odd one, drove 2 days ago, locked it using key in drivers door as alarm fob battery had fell out, alarm armed itself all ok Now,unlock drivers door, central locking doesn't undo other doors,no alarm going off,no interior light or any power anywhere, can't open boot to test battery as no power to boot solenoid, got battery for fob,fob lights up,alarm doesn't ARM or disarm It's done this once before but cured itself, brand new battery,no electrical drains What do you think? Going to poke about in the engine bay and probably run jump leads from a slave battery to solenoid to wake it up but thought I would ask incase anyone knew the cause
Rocket88 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Stating the bleeding obvious.............but has the battery snuffed it [the car one, not the fob!]
kinkersaab Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 indeed, first thing to do is use key to open boot and stick some leads on it......
michael1703 Posted February 21, 2013 Author Posted February 21, 2013 New battery, can't open boot, did it before but cured itself last time
simmo Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I wouldn't be so gungho with the jump leads, it may well be the start of an intermittent fault, so why not get a voltmeter, check the battery voltage may be the earths and power to the fuses etc. If the battery is dead flat I would remove it charge it and test.
kinkersaab Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 ^ oh well, lets hope it cures itself again.... why cant you open boot lid?
simmo Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Check the hand book there is usually a hidden key lock to access the boot in this situation, pull out key end in the fob? Also I think some of the Jags have a jump point under the bonnet like a thick stud painted red stick your charger on this an an earth until you can open the boot.
Cheggers Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 ^^This^^ There's no way Jag would design a car with the battery in the boot and no way to access it without power, they could never get it type-approved. EDIT: From a Jaaaaaag forum... "There is indeed a smart fix for this one gentlemen. lift the hood/bonnet depending on where ye hail from. Attach a battery starter positive lead to the positive post on the firewall, you will need to pull aside the rubber cover and make sure not to arc the positive lead to the fire wall. Attach the battery starter to the engine block some place and when the starter is on, go unlock your trunk either with the fob or the key. You may also do this with jumper cables from another car, but you must be careful not to arc the positive post on the firewall to the firewall itself" Looks like there's a positive jump-post under the bonnet
michael1703 Posted February 21, 2013 Author Posted February 21, 2013 Bootlid only opens on the solenoid from the button on the dash, key doesn't open it,never has. Not starting a "I'm a mong,my battery is flat thread" just wanted to know if anyone had experience of this problem on this particular model of car
cort16 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I think your first port of call is to get the boot open. I seen similiar with a CLK merc who's keyhole had gummed up. One of those trickle chargers that go into the ciggy lighter was enough to get the car enough juice to pop the boot from the remote.
michael1703 Posted February 21, 2013 Author Posted February 21, 2013 I've only got my shitty phone to Google with, hence asking,I thought it was an immob fault but surely I would get some sign of life, warning lights etc. Heard something about pressing the valet button 5 times recodes the fob Don't know where my fully charged slave battery is throwing the power to,but very strange
cort16 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Sounds like the car is stone dead, which means either the battery is knackered, one of the leads has loose off the battery or it's done a Peugeot and just self emploded it's electrical system (which is unlikely).
michael1703 Posted February 21, 2013 Author Posted February 21, 2013 Hang on, could be an earthing fault, have got neg on a good grounding point but no juice going through, will pop out again now my fingers have warmed up
RichardMoss Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I know you have an X300, but you could ask for help at www.xj40.com - not only does the X300 have a lot in common with the late XJ40s (Ford era) there are some of the members with a lot of X300 experience, too. I had a couple of XJ40s but no X300 so don't have first hand experience. However, I think that the positive battery cable runs under the car to the engine bay and mounts on the bulkhead. You could try (carefully) disconnecting this lead to allow all the ECUs to reset then bung it back on to see what happens. It sounds to me like you need to re-synch the fob to the alarm. Some of the cars have switches etc that allow you to do this - ask and I'm sure that help will be forthcoming. One tip, never EVER re-connect an XJ40/X300 battery with the keys in the car because they can spontaneously lock themselves.
michael1703 Posted February 21, 2013 Author Posted February 21, 2013 Got it started, jump leads on,no power, turn key to start, nothing. Combination of jumping, turning key, pressing fob buttons and pressing a valet switch like a young child trying to summon thunder with a light switch and brum brum. Immobiliser faulty but the fact it gives no power whatsoever can't be a factory setting? Bet a jag forum is the snootiest place in cyberville,my x300 is just a winter hack that the dog gets his muddy paws all over,I'll Fuck it off when the gritters go back to sleep and stick the rent on something more fitting

Lot of helpful peeps there and knowledgeable as well. There's a few on there that run X300's as well. They revel in mud and rust, good place to have a look, may help you out. Edit: You may find something on this link. http://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-x3 ... nks-20088/ Has links to various info about X300 including a download for security system info.

Most other Jag fora are snooty places - XJ40.com is the opposite. They know that the rest of the Jag world treats the 40 as "BL Shite" and rather revel in that fact (just as we do here!).
ChinaTom Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 There is a dedicated section for the X300 like yours - plenty of folk there very happy to help. Some of the members have fascinating chos as well - a Renault 4 Gordini, Cordia turbo and few SD1's spring to mind. Owning the previous model is a lot easier in your predicament. The panel holding the lock mechanism is so rust prone that if you can't open the boot with the key, just press your fingers through the panel...
