Mk3 Mondeos- how terrible?

All this talk of cheap Mondeos is quite depressing, mine cost £5800 two years ago although the cooking models have seemed to held their value quite well compared to the more run of the mill models, i suspect mines still worth £3-3500 even for a 2005 plate.

I still haven't collected this old crock yet. I was going to go today but the people who have it are on holiday, hopefully next Saturday will be the fateful day. I do have some more info about it though. It's Burgandy, it's a 2 litre and it's a hatchback. Can't wait! Hopefully it can be A framed without the front bumper ripping off or something.

My Mrs has a 2 litre TDCi, Ghia X spec, leather, cruise control etc. hers is up to about 150,000 miles now and apart from turbo pipes splitting its been a sound motor. I've had 61 mpg on a run back to Bolton from Kent but average mixed mileage will see 42-45 mpg. Water in the boot is becoming an issue now but I find it easy to drive long distance and plenty pokey enough for the odd nippy overtake. Oddly enough for a 11 year old ford - everything electrical still works although it has a habit of locking itself in wet weather.

My garage marra has got a 56-plate ST diesel one to sort out for a colleague, he’s been on with it for yonks. despite being a 56 plate (almost a brand spanker in my eyes) all the nuts and bolts on it look rusty as hell, my old-ass mondeo has fared much better. Plus this diesel one seems to run like a crock of shiz, he’s forever plugging it into the diagnostic machine and arsing about with the EGR valve and that, now the exhaust has developed a hole and it sounds like a Ferguson TE20. Verdict: NOT A SHINING EXAMPLE

I suspect you could be in for a shock. A mate just bought an 05 1.8LX with 76'000 for £1800 at BCA Blackbushe.

The Mk 3 Mondeo is quite possibly the Best Car In The Real World (BCITRW). They're brilliant.

Mines a bit better spec'd then that, 2005 2.2 TDCi ST with all the bells and whistles and DVD players etc, they seem to fetch quite good money still and have the better PSA engine.

A work mate was telling me today how his 2004 Mondeo TDCi 130 broke down recently, the fuel pump had shat itself sending metal filings through the injector system and destroying all four of them in the progress, it cost £1900 to fix it and the DMF has started to rattle too, it's only done 80000 miles.

Even £1800 is loads for a 2005 1.8 Mondeo, was at BCA Measham last week and car are making mad money rusty 51 plate fiestas making nearly £500 etc. I would have to pay about £800 in the trade for a good 05 plate 1.8 Mondeo as there known to have engine problems. I would only consider a Mondeo if its proper cheap.

A mate of mine has just bought an 06 tdci titanium, its a 2.2 and supposedly 150bhp and has all the bells and whistles. it has done 179k miles with full ford history, i drove it last night and was shocked that i actually liked it, it pulled so well from 1000 rpm right up to the red line,

i have never ever looked at these but i would have one now, the car drove as if it had only done 70k even the seats had no wear. how much did he pay for it i hear you ask well i couldnt believe it he bought it from a dealer and paid £1250 for it  thats a whole lot of car for the money.

I don't think it is the better* PSA engine, it's 2198cc vs. 2179cc for the PSA 2.2 engine.
