The trials of owing a Hydraulic Citroen.

Well after getting the rear subframe mount points welded up and made a bit stronger, my BX decided to piss on me big style.

Just finishing putting the car back together after the waxoyling & undersealing follwing the weldathon I noticed a steady stream from the front of the car. Not sure what it was at first, but the quickly forming luminous green puddle was a huge giveaway.

The pipe that has gone is one of the ones that run behind the front subframe. It is the second from the bottom in the stack comes from one of the couplers at the off side and dissapears beind the safety valve. With the car on my large ish stands or wheel ramps I cannot quite get the car high enough to get better access. I think it may be the safety valve to doseur pipe as the car rises ok, but brakes are soft feeling. This area looks a real ballache to work in with a lot of pipes going behind the subrame where I cannot see at all.

All these pipes realy need replacing as they are much the same & they are the old style uncoated pipes, and have been on the car since new, so I suppose it is not bad they have lasted so long. The front/rears where changed ages ago to coated ones and still look pristine!

This is a bit of a bummer as I have realy busted a gut over the last few weeks working on it. I was pushing to get it ready for the first run of the year, Raid Wan on 19th, but I dont think it will make that!!! But to be fair, I sort of new about this and had put this job off to the summer when I was going to make up some pipes. I had already made up the regulator to saftey valve 4.5mm pipe. Ironicaly, this is the easiest to change & in the best condition.

Suppose it was better to happen at home rather than in the Galloway forest during Raid Wan!

Bugger & Double Bugger!!!

Aye. These things are sent to test us! Citroens do seem to go through phases sadly. They can be reliable for months on end, then will chuck several hissy fits. I'm hoping my 2CV isn't starting a hissy-fit phase...

Hissy fffffit indeed!! as that is the exact noise the leak makes. It started off as a constant stream, but when I poked at the pipes, it is now more like a vapor mist.

These things are set to try us, as it's not my daily as such, I'm not as pissed off as I have been in the past, but the major bummer in this one is the access issue as I can't get the car high enough & I cant see the other end of the pipe.

Hmm if you can find out for sure what pipe you need, we may have a NOS genuine one at work.

Thanks for the offer, but I can make up Cit pipes. Do you have much in the way of NOS BX stuff?
