face Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Yes, One of the healight bulbs has popped on the MILF's C-Max - can I just buy a halogen one from Ebay for a couple of quid? Or do I need something 'better'?
jonny69 Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 It will only work with one of those blue 1000W HID conversion kits. YOUR IRRISPONSIBLE IF U DRIVE WIV FACTORY BULBS THEIR CRAP AND BRITER LITES ARE SUPERIER. I DONT NO HOW U CAN SEA WIV THEM. You probably know this, but check what type the bulb because there's a couple of types of halogen bulb with different fittings on the back, like H1, H4 etc.
ashmicro Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Usually H2 on a C-MAX. About 4 quid. Mind you don't break off the release tab when you're moving the headlight.
face Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 Looks like an H7 - two for under a fiver. Cant remember the last time I had to get a bulb - seems cheap to me.
HillmanImp Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Usually H2 on a C-MAX. About 4 quid. Mind you don't break off the release tab when you're moving the headlight. Unless you go to Halfrauds and it will be £15.....

Albert Ross Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Excercise caution with cheap H7 bulbs. The filament sometimes sits in the wrong place in the bulb, affecting the prefocus, and leads to a poor beam image, and subsequent dazzling of other road users, MOT failure, and all it takes is a little thought with the purchase. Avoid brands like "Eagle Eye" for instance.
ashmicro Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 You're quite right, H7 it is. I only did one of these a few weeks ago, too. D'OH! Osram Nightbreaker FTW, BTW.
face Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 Just found a pair of Osram H7 bulbs for £6.46 shipped. I'm guessing they should be OK.
Luxobarges_Are_Us Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 No reason to faff about with e-bay. Just go to your nearest Unipart branch, it'll probably be a few pence cheaper, too (unless you live in the sticks, of course).
face Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 Stickage - at least a 20 mile round trip! I've ordered some from Ebay. Cheers all.
gtd2000 Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Next time you are in town near a Poundland just stock up
myglaren Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I bought a pair of Philips X-treme Vision 100% bulbs, £19 from Amazon, and find them a big improvement over the anonymous bulbs they replaced.Need some H4s for the Main/fog bulbs now though.
HillmanImp Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 On a slightly related note there does seem to be an amazing amount of cars with one blown headlight this year. Normally you see a few but there are literally dozens of them. I only drive 4 miles home each day but have been amazed by the amount I have seen. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it the modern lights going more often or some sort of weather thats causing it or am I just noticing it more?
Richard Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I think it's a combination of zero maintenance by owners, bulbs being difficult to change and a lot of cars using H7 bulbs. H7 bulbs are shit in both performance and longevity.
sawdustman Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 This may be a bit ministry-of-the-bleedin'-obvious to many on here but make sure to not touch glass bit cos the oil off your fingers will get hot and knacker the bulb. On a related note, has anyone else noticed that since white streetlights came out there's been a drastic increase in stupid gonks who've forgot to put their headlights on? I notice at least one each day. Maybe it's more common in urban areas.

JohnDeere Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I think it's more caused by dashboard gauges that light up like Blackpool whether the lights are on or not (on mine the only difference when lights are on is the tiny green light exactly hidden behind the steering wheel.) That and stupid auto lights which means numpties don't check if they're on.
Pillock Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 One bulb went on the Focus. As I was near Halfords that day, and I travel both to and from work in the dark, I pulled down my trousers and paid £9 for a bulb. The next week, the other one went. Went to the BP garage as again it was the closest place, and I can't fricken' stand people driving round with one headlight - expected to pay petrol station mega-dollar.... £1.99. So I bought four of the fuckers, which has completely guaranteed they will never blow again until I get another car with a different headlight bulb.
Guest Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Couple of serious questions about lights... 1. As a lot of people rely on the 'Auto lights on' function, I wondered why in fog they have no lights on, then I remembered playing with photo light reactive cells at school, in fog it's still relatively bright so the lights don't come on. Design fail? 2. I do 40 miles on the M25 every week day. i have noticed a lot of new cars, mainly German that I have come up behind with no back lights on but headlights/LED front markers on.Whats all that about? Are the front LED markers on all the time?
ashmicro Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Whats all that about? Are the front LED markers on all the time? Yes. Those are Daytime Wanker Lights. I turned them off on my Merc, they were REALLY pissing me off.
