Peugeot 206, 2003

Greetings and salutations

My mate has bought a Pug 206 1.4 Quicksilver for his daughter, and it failed the MOT "on the back axle". Vague, I know. He's been told (not by the MOT centre, they're government run here and not garages) it needs a new complete rear axle assembly, but does any shiter know if it's maybe just bushes or something?

I haven't had a look at the car yet, but t'internet tells me it's a common fault, but no solutions are apparent.

The car is to be a Christmas present, so we'd like to get it sorted soon-ish.

Cheers everybody.

Save your knuckles and patience. Replace the axle complete. Probably torsion bar end bearings, but the bar ends will be so badly worn, by the time it's apart, you might aswell just replace it.

Cheers Jim. I was hoping you'd reply. Much appreciated. Ah well, the car was cheap enough. Time to ring the breakers and get stuck in!

*UPDATE* rang my friendly local breaker just now. Whole 2003 Pug 206 with un-fucked axle and "good radius arms, £200 delivered to you Andy. If you can sort out my computer".

Couldn't beat it with a big stick.

It's a drum axle too, so I think we're laughing. My mate Francie doesn't work on Sunday, so he's gonna give me his keys and we can use his 4 post lift, and Bob The Builder (yes, he really IS a builder, and he's called Bob) will lend me his Range Rover and Ifor Williams trailer to get it to the workshop.

I wouldn't call that a bargin, you can get recon axles for just over 300, and you know you won't be repeating the job in 12months time.

I think he meant he got the whole car for £200. That IS a bargain.

Ah yes, I thought that sounded a bit spicy for just an axle!
