cort16 Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 I got this TR7 off Billy Cavette a few months ago but having started to get into it I've realised it's too far gone for me in the grot department (it's not anyones fault you couldn't tell until you dug into it) and I just don't have the time and energy to finish it as I'm just not feeling the love. I was hoping I'd be able to score cheap floor pans etc but they're a bloody fortune. I'm giving myself a 1.8 out of 10 on this one so if anyone fancies it let me know else I'll probably break it. It's a 1977 4 speed manual and mechanically it runs really nice althought it has an oil leak obviously. Grot wise front and back floor pans are gone on both sides and more critically the trailing arm mounting points are totally shagged out on both sides. The rear pans are under a load of crossmembers and look like a right PITA to get out. The drivers door skin has rusted away from the drivers door. Both doors are massively full of wob, which has crack and split. There's a big grot hole filled with glen miller at bottom of the windscreen on the passenger side. The front panel behind the bumper also looks pretty frilly. The wings are bubbling and when I caught the drivers wing with the grinder a 2 inch thick bit of wob flew off so I ended up cutting quite a lot of the bottom of the wing out. There may be more in there! It has a crapy halfords tilt sunroof that leaks and the back panel is properly wobbly. The metal on the drivers seat has cracked and been welded a load of times (and broke again) so a more comprehensive repair or replacement seat will be needed. Good bits. The sills and chassis legs look okay as do the front and rear inner arches. The boot lid, bonnet and bumpers are good. The lights also go up and down and it has sprint alloys, which would be nice with a little work. It drove really when it was on the road. It's not beyond saving especially if you can get floor pans but I can't see myself doing it and I'd rather have the space for something I'm into. I've started welding it up and fixed the upper part of the floor on the drivers side and a bit of inner sill. I've also made up a good bit of the patch needed for the front drivers floor so if someone wanted it I'd probably finish the front floor pan off for them and weld it in. It's currently not rolling or running as I had to disconnect the fuel lines and drop the rear suspension to do the welding. I'm sure I could get it back into a roller and get it running if anyone wanted to see it. I don't want a lot of money for it and I'm sure I could make more if I need to break it but I'd rather give it a chance if anyone's brave enough! PM 4 detailz. In West coast of Scotchland not far from Glasgow..
barefoot Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Can you deliver it to the East Midlands? I'm thinking £40 & a Pork Pie...
cort16 Posted November 9, 2012 Author Posted November 9, 2012 Have you got any more details on the Pie? Butchers or Supermarket?
steve austin Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Oh god, this was mine last year, a fellow shiter had it off me. I really didnt realise she was so poorly when I bought her, otherwise I wouldnt have. What a shame, sorry to have burdened you with a piss poor purchase on my part. Note to self, magnets are cheap.......
cort16 Posted November 9, 2012 Author Posted November 9, 2012 Hey, don't feel bad at all you could never have told it was so rotten as there was a lot of very thick underseal and patches over patches that made it look solid. It wasn't until I got the carpets up I could see how squigy it was.
steve austin Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Cheers, still a shame though as I really enjoyed my few months of ownership, especially as it was icy, great fun turning round on the spot almost! By the way, the lovely filler job at the base of the passenger windscreen pillar was me, meant it to be a temporary water leak fix until the spring which sadly for me never came with the old TR...................
Cavcraft Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 What a shame it turned out to be like that. I genuinely didn't know, Glenn. I'd never rip anyone off, I don't work like that and never will do.Hopefully someone can save it, it'd be a shame to see an early(ish) 4 speeder go to waste. Have you tried eBay? They do seem to attract fairly good money and perhaps someone would take it on?
