Alloy wheel scrap value.

Hi all,

Recently I replaced the wheels on the Saab with a set from a slightly later model. The Wife hated the 3 spoke design of the originals and I have to agree the new 10 spoke replacements do look better. Anyway i'm trying to sell the old rims but nobody in Saab-land seems interested, so it looks like scrapping them may be the best way of getting some cash back.

Does anybody here know they going rate for scrap alloys? I think last time I got a quid a rim or something daft!

less than a quid per kilo last friday for clean alloy wheels

(two rims was 14 kilos, cash was 13 quid)

List them on Ebay for local pick up only. You will always get more than from the scrappie and you will meet another Saab owner.

Varies from about 50p to 75p a kilo round here.

<£1 per kilo, but that's with the tyres already removed. Removing the tyres yourself is an absolutely horrible job.

If the tyres are already off, take them to for scrap and collect about £30. If they are still on, stick the whole lot on ebay for 99p start

Anyone got a tyre removing machine for sale? :)

Pity the person fitting them to your new rims! :D

I forgot to mention: Without doing the slightest damage to the wheel.

Important if you are scrapping the wheel(s)! LOL

I would never dream of scrapping wheels that aren't beyond repair.

In fact, I have a hard time warming up to the idea of scrapping anything.

Here, here! :)

Unfortunately it is sometimes necessary; as the OP was hinting at. :(

The rims still have tyres on, but one is brand new and the others are 3mm-5mm so worth saving as spares.

When he heard of another set of wheels

with only moderate curbing and oxydation

going to be scrapped

he turned his head in sorrow

and weeped bitterly.

Hey Junkman,

You're only in Stockport, do you want to buy my Saab rims for £40 then? I might beable to drop them off to you.

Nah, but you may get your 40 when you list them on Ebay.

I'll wang them on ebay before scrapping them then. Although knowing my luck they'll go for 99p or something.

I got something like £12 for the last set I weighed in

I have just stuck a set of 5 porsche 944 cookie cutters on ebay.

They need tyres and a refurb, but have 4 centre caps.

If they don't sell they are going over the bridge.
