British Auto Classic Show - Pinjarra Australia.. PIC HEAVY..

Hi Chaps,

Just returned from a marvellous day out in the country - not much actual chod here - these being mainly the classic car clubs yearly event, but I figured I'd just post the lot up with witty commentary and banter when needed....

DSCF2414.jpg

The MG owners club in full attendance this year, hence this motley collection

I've always liked these, but imagine they're a devil to work on - not much room left under the bonnet

DSCF2415.jpg

MG's as far as the eye can see!!! Moving swiftly on...

DSCF2416.jpg

This is more like it :)

DSCF2417.jpg

I had a chat to the owner about this one, turned out he built it for rallies and hill-climbing. Apparently it did ok in the Albany classic this year..

DSCF2418.jpg

MG ZT-T Supercharged. Certainly the only estate I've seen on the roads over here so far.

DSCF2422.jpg

E-Type. One of many many here.

DSCF2425.jpg

I cannot remember what this is. Semi-official kit car?

DSCF2427.jpg

Now we're talking! Not long ago these were worth nothing..

IMAG0257.jpg

More Jags

IMAG0258.jpg

On to the Rovers...

IMAG0259.jpg

IMAG0260.jpg

I quite like our local branch of the Rover Owners Club. There's stil plenty of SD1's around so they're not afraid to mildly barry an average one

IMAG0261.jpg

Moving on to Autoshite Proper...

If this isnt copper-bottomed, gold-plated, top-shelf commercial chod then I really don't know what is :)

IMAG0264.jpg

Ok, maybe I've been trumped here. I believe this started out as a Riley. I don't know what happened here

IMAG0265.jpg

IMAG0266.jpg

About time Uncle Sam made an appearance!

IMAG0267.jpg

On to the Blue oval stuff

IMAG0268.jpg

I've seen this Cossie around quite a bit. Does very well in the local racing events. Very scabby around the edges - which is a bit of a shame, these don't fetch the silly money here like they do in the UK

IMAG0269.jpg

1300XL Escort. Arrived on a trailer, seems just an over-restored show car - not a mark on it. Dunno if I approve of the Cortina Ghia wheels though

IMAG0270.jpg

On to the Green Ovals....

IMAG0271.jpg

IMAG0272.jpg

IMAG0273.jpg

Just occasionally you can see the odd series landy still working for a living out on the farms and cattle stations

IMAG0279.jpg

I think this is an ex-Aussie-Army one - going by the mudguards and rear tub. Will did my Military Landrover book out later and check.

IMAG0278.jpg

A NEW one. Not much room left under the bonnet. Gone are the days when you had to get your mate to hold your ankles whilst you changed the points just in case you fell in..

IMAG0275.jpg

No idea what kit car this is... The chap on the left is a mate of mine - came out here after leaving the Marines and taking a love of british tat with him. Owns at least 4 or 5 rovers and Land-rovers at a time in various states of (dis)repair.

IMAG0274.jpg

A Load of Lotuses..Lotii..Loteruses...

IMAG0281.jpg

IMAG0283.jpg

IMAG0284.jpg

I can't even begin to imagine the amount of financial ruin and trauma owning this would cause...

IMAG0285.jpg

A group of Jensens

IMAG0286.jpg

IMAG0287.jpg

This is a first. I don't believe I've seen of these before. Has a hint of Volvo ES1800 about it - of course we all know the connection here

IMAG0288.jpg

Nothing says Old Money quite like a Rolls

IMAG0289.jpg

IMAG0291.jpg

IMAG0293.jpg

A 1911 Star. Seeing something like this here made me happy :)

IMAG0294.jpg

Some more commercial chod

IMAG0295.jpg

IMAG0294.jpg

Coming up to the bikes soon....note the iconic Aussie Ute.

IMAG0290.jpg

Another of Uncle Sams creations. There is a massive fad here for putting very bling rimz on yank classics. Personally I'm not a fan.

IMAG0297.jpg

IMAG0298.jpg

Just look at the caravan. And the tow car. Imagine tootling off for a weekend away, tartan blanket on the backseat, a thermos of tea and a wicker basket full of cucumber sandwiches and digestives. HEAVEN.

IMAG0299.jpg

Last but not least, the bikes. I know nothing about motorbikes, so if someone could tell me what the green one with the L sticker is, I'd be very happy :)

No..... No P76, or Marinas, or classic Mini's..

I think cos they were made by Leyland Australia they're not british... who knows?

Maybe it's the large ex-pat retiree community re-living the cars they owned in their youth.........

i've only ever seen about 2 or 3 P76's outside of a museum here - all at classic motor rallies or hillclimbs, none at classic car shows. I would be surprised if there's any more than maybe 15 or 20 left in the entire state.

The rims on that Nimrod aren't that bling - they're Budniks, which are really dear. The chromed ones are rank, I'll give you that, but the crackle grey finish is pretty nice.

Great pics. I'll take the Gold MKIV Continental

Yeah, That Nomad looks pretty sweet on those mags, there's one that shows up to the local meet over here that has the chrome versions, and fake brakediscs behind the rear ones... there really is no accounting for taste.

How very true. I also find rusty steelies with mis-matched tyres a lot more attractive.

However, this I oddly like:

Lovely stuff, thanks for posting. Someone who knows will be along soon, but before he gets here I am going to guess that the squashed Morgan is an Allard?

Posted

The bike looks like a GT250 Suzuki of mid seventies flavour. Latish because of the front disc, but doesn't seem to have ram air on the heads

Posted

Budnik rims... *googles* Ok, thats around FIVE THOUSAND aussie dollars for 4..... and here's me thinking they were el cheapo ones :)

Considering what that Nomad is worth, than thats probably fairly cheap!
