Any shiters in or near Wrexham available tomorrow morning?

If anyone on here is available tomorrow morning to help strip a car down in a couple of hours then I would appreciate you help. The car in question is a fairly sound Lancia y10 with many useful parts which has a date of execution for Monday.

It's going to be about 3.5-4 hours up country for me but I am aiming to be there for about 9.30 to begin ripping it apart including hopefully being able to grind off the sills, although this would require a portable generator which I don't have or hoping that my extension lead is long enough to reach the car from the nearest electrical point.

So if anyone is up for a game of 'see how much lancia can fit in an Alfa romeo 156 in 3 hours' then head on over to David kelly car breakers just outside Wrexham for about 9.30.

I might be up for this - do any other NW shiter's feel like going? David Kelly is a nice fella, he might be able to help with the grinding/cutting problem.

Buggeration. Had I not been needed in work for 12 I would have come along to this and annoyed the fuck out of everyone. Best of luck with the stripping.

Eeerm, you know what I mean.

Ooh, 'maybe'. I'm actually pretty close to there tomorrow morning on a char-i-dee dog walk but it's the bread knife's idea and I'd probably get killed if I just left her to it and went a stripped a car.

Is there ant flexability on start time? Speak to me nicely and I'll dig my (fairly weedy but does work) petrol genny out of my garage!

Stop her half way through, look into her eyes and say 'I have a big surprise for you', then walk off leaving her to wonder what surprise you're going to give her (they like that kind of thing women). Spend day cutting out sills. Then return many hours later with £5 garage forecourt flowers.

12.30 is when the place shuts tomorrow so we need to have everything possible off the car by then. Yard opens at 9 so I will be there as soon after that time as possible. And from then there is at most three and a half hours to get the lancia in the Alfa romeo.

All help is hugely appreciated. No matter for how long, but a generator would be amazing, if just to get the sills off in case there is no near power at the yard. If possible I wouldn't mind grabbing a few other chunks of metal that judging by the side I have almost completed are likely to be rusty on the other side.

This all depends on the condition of this doner of course.

Dave: I might just as well borrow the grinder and remove my own bollocks as do that.

Phil: Pm sent. No promises but I might* be able to get there for 9.00 and spend half an hour there tops.

It might be a li'l rusty. Some of the motors in there have been there for decades.

Apparently this hasn't been there long but does look like it has been stored outside for a while. Both the yard owner and kevfromwales who originally messaged me on the blue forum say the bodywork looks pretty straight under the grime.

Hey, just a thought but isn't a Y10 a small car? If so and if it helps/assuming you can tow it somehow, you can bring it to mine, shove it in my spare lock up then just rob it for parts with a longer time frame to do so.

If I had a tow bar or a lisence that allowed me to tow stuff that would be amazing. Sadly I don't, so unless anyone else is up for a spot of a-framing then that excellent option is not possible.

Right, see you guys tomorrow (hopefully) I'm off to bed as getting up at 4.15 to set of for 5 is not something I'm in the habit of.

Just dropped the genny off (with no bloody fuel in it :( ) and Phil has issued a 'call to arms'. If anyone can get up there and give him a hand he'd be very grateful.

Postcode is: LL14 4ET. It's right up in them there hills but you want believe what kind of stuff is in his yard if you haven't been before. There's a Renault 17 coupe on the way in, and scores of old crap from probably the 1950's onwards, it's an absolute eye opener.

*If anyone has Station Violent Dave's phone number Phil has asked if he is still coming up.

just seen this....bit late as it will take me nearly 2 hours to get there. Sorry. :(

Unfortunately I was sod all help really due to the dog walking thing/being scared of the wife.

Hopefully these pictures will have come out, let me know if they haven't and if they're on the piss a bit then apologies.

Those pics just aren't loading for me Billy. Don't know if anyone else can see them.

Got back at 4am this morning, you should do this next Saturday, it gives you plenty of time and I can get down there. :)

Pics not working Billy. Probably due to smart* phone phail?

Which ones of the gang rolled up at 8.15am, having forgotten the clocks went back? :)

Yay, that works Billy. I hope that wing was rotten

Sadly not apparantly. Phil knows more (obviously) but I think he said despit carefully undoing the wing bolts etc it bent as he tried to get it off. It was like a comedy sketch as he was driving out of the scrappy, his was just ram full with just about enough room for him to squeeze into the driver's seat!

Edit: There was a superb Renault T1400 (?) van in there that look far too good to scrap (it's not the one in the background of picture/s) so I might have to ask them what's happening with it.

I made it back about an hour ago. I am utterly knackered now, it didn't help that I decided to use the sat-nav to make my drive home easier. It decided the best possible place I could be was Cardiff for no reason what so ever and added about an hour onto my journey time and spat me onto the M5 at rush hour in torrential rain.

However...

That was a damn good day, was quite a good laugh ripping that car to shreds and Billy forgetting petrol generators need petrol to run. Kev is very efficient at removing parts from scrap cars, I get the feeling he is quite experienced at it.

I have one picture, of the Y10 pre-stripping and its rubbish.

Tomorrow I shall endeavor to get a photo of how full the Alfa Romeo is of Lanica before I empty it.

With regard to the front wing, they are both sound on this car, but the wings don't rot out on these due to efficient arch liners and about an inch (I'm not exaggerating) of gloopy underseal on the inside. They are also bolted on and glued on which makes them very time consuming to remove without bending it - it took two of us an hour to successfully remove the drivers side wing from my Y10 ls I though 'ah fuck it' and removed enough bolts to get the side next to the door undone and bent it good and proper. There were too many rare parts (such as the doors) to worry about trying to save those wings when I can name two sources right away that they are available from.
