insurance - short term or cheap annual

I know this has been asked before, I have done a search on the forum and got quotes from various companies suggested but all rather expensive. Adian Flux have quoted me 838 tpft on a 5000 mile annual policy on my caro hatchback. That was through highway insurance. Frank Pickles don't want to know as an fso isn't a "classic".

Basically the caro is on a sorn but is having mot on thursday so I was thinking of just taking out a few days insurance but I will need an annual policy as caro truck has been sold so the caro hatchback will be my daily driver from next week. I can't add the caro hatchback to the caro truck policy (still with me?) because its not a commercial vehicle so it means starting a new policy. I also can't use the ncd from the trucks policy, I can't cancel the insurance on that because it is my daily driver until it is collected this Saturday.

Can anyone recommend anyone?

thanks

Check out cooling-off period terms. Some of them allow you to cancel within the 14 days without any admin charge, just time on risk. Most charge £25-30 for the privilege, which still works out much cheaper than short-term insurance.

Buy a policy without NCD, cancel it on Saturday, then buy a brand new one with your NCD transferred across.

If you just need insurance to get it to the MoT and back - try the RAC one day insurance thing - It usually costs me about £15-20 for a day which is handy for taking a car to MoT or picking up some shite without farting around with my annual policy. You can do it for a few days but it obviously becomes more worthwhile just changing your annual policy then cost wise
