My god. He's actually bought a decent motor! I await some hilarious adventures that are inevitable with one of your cars.

Ian even with the law of averages I had to get a decent car at some point.

Love it and it looks realy nice and looked after

I drove one of these years ago and liked it felt like it was doing megga mpg

shouldnt there be a fiberglass / plastic guard to cover the CVT ?

Was it just the manual version that used to rattle the clutch output shaft bellhousing bearing ?

All I need to do now is work out how to get to Highbridge & Burnham station cheaply from Chorleywood. :-)

I've used coach travel for my last few tat collecting missions - either Megabus or National Express. Much more pleasant and hugely cheaper than rail travel :D

Well one way train tickets are booked for next Saturday, so that's me being confident that I'll get home.

Looking forward to the drive home, through the valley of Cheese aka Cheddar Gorge.

Its funny I should get a volvo. The nearest car dealership to me was Pillings Volvo and I'd often go there as a child and ogle the lines of new 300, 200, 700 and 900 series cars on the forecourt.

Maybe I should go and surprise their service manager by asking for an obscure parts like headlamp wiper blades for my 340 lol

Just remember the vario trick. Nail it to get up to speed, then ease off to let the revs drop. I love driving Varios. They're so oddball. Oh and the DAF club has had belts remade just in case...

I really want a 340, it's on my list of cars I'm looking out for at the moment.

Wouldn't mind a Vauxhall Carlton either, but I my brain tells me I'd regret that.

Really nice purchase there though!

I'm still a rookie in driving years (Well, actually almost 1 year to be precise) so that would bring a fairly heavy insurance premium.

But, I am looking to move into the realms of shite, currently running a 2002 1.2 Polo S. Great first car.

But a 340 seems to be a reasonable car price wise, for both the car and insurance. It's also a car I've liked for a number of years now.

The Polo 9N1 series are decent little cars, and the 3 cylinder models sound sporty;hopefully yours is a 12v model which gives acceptable all round performance

Yes it as, and for what it is the engine does have quite a nice note to it.

I'm not in any rush to get rid of the Polo, I just keep putting spare cash into my savings in the hope that I'll find something that ticks the boxes for me sooner or later. I did almost buy a '82 Beetle recently, quite glad I didn't in hindsight.

Make sure you keep on the oil and filter changes and put in the right grade of oil,as the earlier models had timing chain issues where the tensioner lets the chain slip, and needs to be replaced ( not usually terminal, but still a unwanted arsepain ). Insurance must sting, even on a 1199 cc VW
