Looks nice! What's it like working at Carpet Right?

Posted

Ooh, I've bought my carpet at CR (Amsterdam)! Somehow I feel the wheels are an inch too big, diametricallywise.

I work for halfords next door!!

I work for halfords next door!!

I worked for Halfords in the early 90's and have fond memories it. There was plenty of shite around the High Street branches I worked at (Kettering, Corby, Huntingdon and Peterbrough). These were the days when be asked for points for 120Y's, oil filters for Lacia Betas, wiper blades for Renault 18's etc etc. My most obscure satisfied customer received a leccy window motor for a Colt Sapporo, and best laughs were had wiring up 12V compressors to 4 Heavy Duty Batteries to make sure it was accepted by the FAGO department in Redditch. I expect FAGO is a thing of the past along with Price Variance Reports and 000059 as a dump code for anything we didn't price up when the price gun broke. Ah, happy days...

I work at the superstore in plymouth as the Audio fitter and as we have a huge carpark out front we often get some interesting motors turning up! Ive got loads of other photos of everything from shite to supercars and there seems to be something interesting daily during the summer months!! It makes my job a little more interesting!! Ill see what piccys i can dig out from the past!! 8):D

And yes FAGO is still in full swing and the most fun we ever had is when we had to destroy 10 electric scooters that were recalled with faults! We nicked some long carpet tubes from carpet right and attempted scooter jousting in the back lane!!! One of the lads even got 3 of the batterys from them and wired it to one scooter, however once connected it was just ON with no throttle control! The thing went like buggery but he couldnt stop and ended up going into the side of our old bosses car!! He still didnt know where that dent came from to this day!!

To keep you busy heres just a few cool pics from the last few weeks...........

This 928 was minty mint and he had just spent 12k getting it to concourse standard!!!

What a dick, still at least he has proper period plates with a non-personal registration so that's all right then.

EDITED to admit I failed to spot the 928 digits...

Thats an origional "928" number plate from the factory and is not a personal plate! Apparently some were lucky enough to get these!!!!

And a DJS........................ Local college tutor built it himself and has used it every day for nearly 10 years!!!!!

Hasn't the DJS THING had a paint-job (presumably dulux, with a brush) since it last appeared on here? And what's with the R21 "donk"? Enormous wheels for the lose.

Posted

yea it was bare alloy for years...... Must have started to chorode??Apart from the huge wheels, the R21 was well clean and there isnt many around now!!

Posted

Love the Consul/Zephyr/Zodiac (don't know which is which either), and good to see the DJS is still alive and butt ugly.

Posted

The old green one is a Consul. Zephyr/Zodiac had a grill which didn't have a flat top like this one.

What a stunner! I bet you make Kia Pride owners jealous with those whitewalls. :P

Who posted that DJS thing previously then? The rear angle reminds me a bit of a Citroen CX. I can't imagine how someone can just build a car like that, not even from a kit! What's the difference between the Sunbeam Tiger & Sunbeam Alpine?

Quite. RegRit, the Alpine came furnished with various flavours of Rootes engine, as found in Minxes and whatnot of the day from the puny 1500 through to the tasty 1725 on twin strommies, more than a match for an MGB. The Tiger was fitted with a 4.3 Ford "Windsor" V8 after being developed by Carroll Shelby. Sounds very impressive doesn't it. But a stock Windsor only throws out abut 160bhp. Enough to make the Tiger a bit hairy, and obviously sound nice, but a bit stingy given what can be released with some simple modifications. The car pictured (DOL527C) has approximately 500 bhp, which I suspect is ruddy terrifying, and was achieved through an enlarged 'stroke' of the engine, mahle pistons, some fancy headwork and a hoofing holley carb. It also runs Peugeot 406Koop brakes to stop all that power. A lovely thing, it was cover car of Retro Cars september 2005

Had a little "corolla based chat" in the carpark which was cool ............ better than working!! LOL
