My shitter needs transporting

To cut a long story short, I need to get welding done on the rear of my BX. To do so the rear subframe needs removing & the bloke doing it does not want to touch due to the hydraulic issue. I will remove said subframe, but need to move the car 10 miles to his place. Tried shitly for quotes, but just silly money.

Can you not drive to him (pre-booked MOT blah, blah blah) and take it off once you get there?

I understand you are allowed to drive it to a pre booked place of repair as long as it not stupidly dangerous. Bickle said that on a thread recently and of anyone will know it will be him.

All that potential faffing around seems all the reason you need to buy a little migwelder.

Car is not mot fail & will not fail MOT as the welding cannot be readily seen with the rear wheels on. I can't really work at the garage as there is not really that much room & I cannot see him letting me loose on a ramp.

Mig welder is a more long term plan. I need to get my car storage sorted out as it is in a lock up with no power.

Just need to find someone local who is cheap! Quotes of £90 each way are silly!

Someone else may correct me on this but if its not failed, then defo book it in for an MOT station nearby and then just go to your place of repair. If you get caught on the way, you are on the way for the MOT, if not bob on.

Could you get hold of a trailer for the week or so it would take, then load it on before you take bits off?

Or have a mobile welder come out to you?

Or find a welder with a bigger workshop?

I can't see it being too easy to load a BX that has no back wheels and low suspension on the front on to anything without hiabing it. If I had to quote to shift one in that state it would be far more than 90 quid to go anywhere

Best of luck getting it sorted, it looks like a great example of a rather good car

The plan is not to completely remove the subframe, but just disconnect the hydropneumatic bits. This will keep the car kind of mobile and easier to load onto a truck/trailer and then all he needs to do is drop the frame like you would on a normal car. The subframe may need a repipe afterwards as sometimes the unions are a bastard to undo even with a flare nut spanner & it's easier to cut them. No way of knowing until you start!

This guy is shit hot, that's why I'm using him. It's not going to be for a few weeks as he has a MG, TR6 & Maserati to do.

MOT runs out at end of Oct

I am confuzzled. Why cant you just drive it there?

^^This has been mentioned in the first post:

Although, I don't see why it couldn't be driven there, and the subframe droped off in the street and the car trolley-jacked into the workshop.

Ring round your local recovery firms. They should be able to do it for £30 or so.

well i wouldn't have thought 90 quid was too bad really for a firm to come and do it..........when you consider it will probably take a good hour. Like other said........drive it there, drop subframe in yard and job done. Or let him undo the pipes at your risk to let him off the hook

Newsflash

Spoke with garage today & explained the ballache of me removing & getting the car there or working in his yard, not happy H&S and all that! Anyway the upshot is if I show him the finer points of citro plumbing, he will remove & I will make up any pipes if req. Undoing citroen pipes can be fun as the pipe unions are made from cheese & even with a proper flare nut spanner they can round.
