The problem with Biodiesel is again, the upped ethanol content. Surprised it rotted stuff on a 2005 Skoda though. Info I've seen suggests that anything post about 1992 should have fuel lines capable of handling biofuels.

No ethanol in biodiesel

It's cetane number is about 10, petrodiesel is like 55 :P

The rubber o-ring on the fuel pipe clips fell apart causing a leak, the biodiesel increases the acidity of the fuel.

The PD engines are not recommended to run on biodiesel I assume for this reason, and the potential injector issues.

I run my '04 Toledo 1.8T on V Power and it certainly seems to go better and get marginally better economy than on standard fuel. Never done any long term checking on this in fairness so I might be imagining it but it certainly seems to prefer expensive stuff.

I run my '04 Toledo 1.8T on V Power ... and get marginally better economy than on standard fuel...

Never done any long term checking on this ....

That was one of the reasons that I posted, I've been fuellying all my cars for almost a year, so I thought that I'd established a fair baseline from which to compare.

My first tankful was just that, because I was measuring the economy of the previous fuel, but my second has shown an improvement & that was still with about 30 odd litres of ordinary in the bottom.

I'm hoping that now that it's running exclusively on Ultimate, I'll see more improvement.

I know its a bit anorakky, but if it really does save money, then its got to be worth a go, although I am lead to believe that I won't see quite such an improvement on the Scirocco & particularly the T2, it must be worth measuring.

I'll keep you all informed.

Ah, think I've got my ethanol and methanol confused. Methanol is often used to convert veg oil into a more diesel-like fuel, and that rots stuff too.

And makes you turn yellow and go blind. Like compulsive masturbation.

On a GEEK note it works far better in a fuel cell than hydrogen, can be easily stored and can be made readily from pretty much any bio-matter. The methanol economy is technically much better than the hydrogen economy, but obviously all political researchers are after is a soundbite about the latter.
