Would it be worth buying this Metro?

I think Metro's like this are probably worth a grand if you want a Metro, I think there is no guarantee you could sell it on for the same price or even a profit, but you might be lucky and find the one person who has that much to spend and wants it that much.

Most people think its not worth £1k and I'd agree. But if you are that person that really wants a Mk1 MG Metro then you'd probably buy it. Shame that by the time that person appears it'll probably be too far gone though.

I really don't understand this thing with engines for Minis. I mean, there seem to be plenty of half-decent Minis on Autotrader for less than two grand. It's not like you can make a fortune by getting one with a buggered engine and swapping it for one from a Metro. You'll probably end up saving a couple of hundred after weeks (months?) of faffing about. I really can't see why hundreds of people seem to be at it.

I think that 1275s are at most risk as until the 1990s most Minis were 998s and everyone wants to go a bit faster! I don't understand either as you usually find a Mini needs a complete body resoration before the engine packs up! In the past MG Metros were targets as the Heads are better (bigger valves I think) and should put out 75bhp against 60ish for a std 1275. The Austin 1300GT were also sought after as it is claimed (not sure it was enirely true) they had almost Cooper S spec engines - something about con-rods and again better heads.

It's funny really, because my little 1983 55PS Mitsubishi Mirage 1250cc could blow a Mini 1275GT into the weeds....
