Highly dangerous, but try this. install 5 gallon jerry can in the rear passenger footwell with fuel pipe running to it, and then try it..................I suspect you've got oceans of clag in the fuel tank. Has it been sitting for long?

I'd def agree with Col on that, although I use a shorter pipe out of the front passenger footwell -where I can keep a weathered eye.

I specifically use a marinised outboard (plastic) 5 litre petrol can -its got a specific bottom end connection so the pipe plugs on securely, it doesnt need to be full, & can take swishing around wwithout fear of leaks..

Flexi pipe out the window through the bonnet to the pump.

You'll know -in minutes.

It was MOT'd in 2011 and had only been out of test for 2weeks when I bought it.

I think it had sat for 8months tops, and even then it was started driven in/out of the unit.

I suppose all of that is moot though, and the only real way to know is to drop the tank. Its the last port of call and if I don't find owt in there then I have literally no idea.

I'll have to start by replacing fuel lines and if its still there it'll be new tank time.

You're right, of course. But if I want this at RR tomorrow, then I need to drop this tank tonight.. I don't finish work until 7pm so will only have a couple of hours of light, tops.

I will see if I can get some kit organised while Im still here so i can go home, rig it up and get an idea what the issue is straight away...

Another alternative, if you have one knocking around, Is just , as a temporary measure, stick another tank in the boot, and re- run the fuel lines.

Do the check first. Why waste time dropping the tank -if thats not the prob. This way you'll know, & it takes 5 mins.

Very true.

Though, as Ive said, if its not this Im not sure what it is. Theres literally nothing else to replace other than all the fuel lines and tank.

Remember a mate of mine had a shonky old XJ6 which had the usual leaky fuel tank scenario [both of them!] He had 2 x 5 gallon marine tanks in the boot.............neat job, in true Autoshite tradition.

My marine tank & lengthy clear plastic pipe is a de facto part of my A/shite rescue kit & subsequent snagging runs .

You know ,in seconds -whats going on.
