VOSA and the eight point rule..........Renown

Technically, and modded vehicle needs to score a minimum of 8 points to avoid having to be inspected by the authorities and being lumbered with complying with legislation that would cost thousands to comply with.

The quection is, if you replace, say , the rear axle with one that looks the same as the original, but is from a different manufacturer entirely, how many inspectors would know what an original Renown axle looks like? It's the same configuaration, solid rear axle with leaf springs, but not the original!

It also has a disc brake front end, [originally drums] but they are from another Triumph, does upgrading your car with bits from the same manufacturer help your cause?

Any input most welcome, as to get this car registered over here, I'm going to have to have a fairly convincing case.

if the renown has MOT and/or tax i dont think you would have a problem with vosa, applying to transfer the reg plate is usually when they look at a car more closely

Just do it and STFU mate. Get an MOT station recommended to you. Not a bent one, just one that's used to modified cars. They should test it on it's safety and say no more about what your car's made of

The MOT only ensures that the vehicles is put together properly, i.e. if there's an axle fitted, it must be secure, if brakes are fitted, they must work, that kind of thing. The points only come into it if you are having it inspected in order to retain a reg, or indeed to ascertain an age for it, in order to GET a reg. Neither of which it needs. Unless the import to Jersey changes all of that. AFAIK, if it was all done many years ago, (Ahem) then it's not required to be inspected, as it was done prior to the rules change. Cough.

With FredT on this and I think no more should be said as this is a public forum

The points system is really only there to avoid the 'Triggers broom' scenario of motors such as Landrovers which to all intents and purposes, is a late 90's Tdi being passed off as tax exempt.....Minis suffer from the same problem as do many cars that have been manufactured across the 1/1/73 break.

It used to be interesting to look at the classic cars for sale on ebay, look at the numbers for sale for each year then chuckle at the spike in the numbers for sale maufactured in 1972.......Haven't done it for a while so don't know if it's still the case......

I can't see that an old pre 73 motor being repaired with old pre 73 parts is going to attract a lot of attention unless it's to do something naughty with the number plates.......
