I've made the decision to offload this old thing, it's been with me for a long time and although I found time to MOT it recently it's barely turned a wheel since. I don't think I'll get around to doing anything with it anytime soon, more years that add up to decades. With hindsight I should have moved it on with ebay 5 or so years ago when that option was still viable, I really don't have time to deal with messers these days. I will sit down tonight and write up something for the Car and Classic website, you never know.

Meantime maybe I should try the traditional means and pop over to the newsagents for a couple of car mags, can anyone point me in the direction of titles worth advertising with so I don't end up listing it in 'The Cat Fanciers Journal' or 'Tattooed Brides'.

Dont mug yourself, there are plenty of cock ends that mess you about on Ebay, but an early fifties fx3 would appeal to a better class of buyer

Some retired old giffer who's dad drove one etc, I dont know how good it is but its got to be worth £2200 upwards

Des, that's beautiful. I agree with the above - there are scummers on eBay but this isn't the sort of vehicle that will attract them. You will be in old giffer territory unless someone like me buys it. There's a small chance the hotrodders might like it too, but be prepared for it to get modified. The thought did cross my mind as it goes - customise the pavement-side to accommodate a door and turn it into a family car, swap in a flathead from a V8 Pilot and a 5-speed box and otherwise leave it as it is. Hey Presto, non-Ford luxury family car of pre-war design. Though I bet the old diesel probably isn't too bad. Stunning. I bet it floats down the road too.

Practical Classics; is there an owners club?; anywhere where you'd normally sell wedding cars?

I better clarify, it's not really a cab as such, but the 4 door private hire version, it's wearing the cab grill at the moment as I've not found the time to put its fancy one on in the last 20 years. Its petrol, the diesel ones were dismal, when I last used it regularly I was working in East City and would easily rip FX4s, had a good 30 to 40 MPH on them along dual carriageways. I did try my brothers ebay account earlier in the year, I listed it badly, although this generated a lot of questions and silly offers, not a single person serious enough to view, I perhaps wrongly assumed I would see a last second bidding frenzy, this pattern usually presenting a halfwit who thinks winning an auction merely reserves them a tyrekicking opportunity, that and the fact that I found time to MOT the bugger led to me pulling the auction. I thought I'd get the chance to use it again, but just not happening. I did find time to replace front and rear screen seals and pop on some nicer headlamps though.

The biggest liability of owning this thing is the spares I've collected, all the running gear and axles, way too much stuff, which would make sense to shift with the car, but in reality would probably never be needed.

Its a difficult thing to value, won't fetch top dollar as the paintwork is poor, considering what I'd have to pay to get hold of one I think I'd price it around 5K and accept it wouldn't be a quick sale, keep it safe from the plate rapists anyway.

Perhaps consider listing it for sale in a publication aimed at taxi drivers, or on a similarly focused website.

I'd have thought that current/retired taxi drivers would be the best target audience.

Now it's together, I shall tell my workmate that an FL1 is available. He's the one with the FX3, SLL21. He knows people that want his FL1.

You could try Classic Van magazine - it's near enough to a commercial to get the van pervs interested. Or take the nearside door off and hire it out for film work!

Fit! Wish I could justify adding this to my Austin collection, I love it.

Try contacting the North Yorkshire Motor Museam in Thornton Le Dale as they specialise in classic vehicles of all ages and price ranges, and they buy and sell vehicles, and do travel about and collect as well.I know them there and they won't con you

Actually, I'd love to have your cab over this one. I also have left leg probs that would render me totally unable to drive the Panhard anyway

Albert, I'll take 5000 shekels, it is the one on the car and classics site, free to advertise which is nice.
