Back in the 80s, CAR magazine released a special edition 'CAR Photo' Magazine, showcasing some of the best shots from the magazine over the past few years.

I have this and cherish it hugely.

The interviews with the photographers - many of whom are still in the car snapping biz - are really interesting especially as they mention what cars they themselves own. Lots of love for the 205 GTi/Porker 924 I seem to remember

The quality of the photography was what got me into CAR during the 80s. I was quite a keen photographer and worked in the industry back then and quite a lot of the shots I've taken of my own cars over the years have been influenced by what I saw in CAR.

Did you buy the magazine on ebay?

 

Yup, they do crop up occasionally, IIRC I paid about a fiver for it which I thought was pretty good.

I bought CAR religiously back then. I remember each and every one of those photo's like it was just yesterday.......

It's amazing how much photography trends have changed. You could put any car in those shots and pretty much put a date on the photograph by the composition, framing and colours alone.

 

I agree, was the weather worse back then as well? I remember all car books were full of old chod in moody weather
