Mrs P's DVLA woes

Mrs P has a private reg ... I know, I know... which has transferred between a number of her cars. In April she bought a Celica and the dealer transferred the plate. So far so good. Last month, having decided she didn't like it, she part ex'd it for a Merc CLK. The dealer agreed to do the transfer. Cue problems with non-receipt of V5. DVLA has the paperwork for both cars.

This morning she got a letter saying that the Celica must be presented at 2.15 at the Lincoln office on 10 July for a check. She rang and was told by a humanoid that this is part of a scheme where randomly selected cars must be checked against the chassis plate etc. If it is not taken, then the plate is lost. The car is not hers to take but it seems the dealer will not get the paperwork either. Apparently the bloke said there is no choice in the matter. Presumably the dealer will then have to take it (a round trip of nearly 80 miles) or he won't be able to sell it on either. And they won't send the V5 for the Merc too.

We'll see what the dealer says ...

What a shower of shit :evil:

I had that happen to me once.

The inspector checked the car and noticed that either the vin plate or the engine number was not the same as the logbook. I immediately started to sweat and said "Is that a problem?". He was quite relaxed and told me that it was probably input wrongly and that he would get it put right on the new log book. Phew!

Yeah they do it occasionally to make sure you aren't one of those dickheads who has pulled a valuable plate and vin off of something like this:

180690_b6519d12.jpg and either moting a non existant car, or dumping the plate on a similar one to plate rape the scrap fodder.

We had to do the same on a Rover 800 that was traded in to us, which was fine but the auto box had shat itself, so it had to be stuck on the truck, taken to Lincoln and back just to check it was what we were saying it was.

What are they going to do when they shut the regional offices: make you drive to Swansea, believe what you tell them or send an inspector round to your house?

A true crock of shite.

It's only just been transferred so why 'randomly' check it again - especially when it's transferring to the same owner....grrr
