I saw this on Retro Rides and decided I must have it.

As it was kind've near to work, I got the train down to Basingstoke, then a taxi to Tadley and before I knew it, I was off up the road with the rear brake binding.

My silly trade insurance which I added the car to 12 hours earlier hadn't updated on the MID, and seeing as I had been up and down to London twice in three days and had had seven hours sleep in the two days prior, I decided to attempt to tax online at every service station, but was unsuccessful and ended up getting back home at around 1am.

It has been laid up since winter, so it had the usual algae stuck all over it. The paintwork was also flatter than a witches' chest. Also a blow on the exhaust downpipe and it wouldn't idle. The t-top roofs leak like a poundland umbrella and the four tiny speakers located in whatever space Toyota could fit them are proving they're not up to the job when I need a bit of Cannibal Corpse in my evening drive.

The first job was to get it into some kind of car washing utility - the photo doesn't do the algae justice, it's hardbaked green that can't be removed by a gentle car wash:

"I've heard of this soap substance before, but never actually seen it" says Merde:

For the first time in history I actually like the 'Team Dynamic' aftermarket wheels on the car - especially after the three spoke nightmare on my Z31. They really do suit the car.

I've so far spent the day giving it a proper jet wash, have used G3 to cut the paint and then given it a good polish. This took the best part of three hours.

The interior wasn't filthy which breaks the trend of all cars I have bought in my lifetime so a quick hoover in Sainsbury's did the job. Also sealed the downpipe join with 4 quid Halfords exhaust repair goo. The electric aerial needs replacing (it's been snapped off), so I might actually splash out 10 quid on a Halfords bendy one (I'm undecided over red or black?).

Everything is present, including an unused spare and a complete unused toolkit, and even the t-top blinds are present with their storage bags!

Jobs left are sealing the t-tops properly and replacing the aerial, putting my ol' Blaupunkt in and maybe getting a decent subwoofer under the seat.

I remember quite enjoying spazzing around in one of these many many moons ago. It had an ANSA quad pipe exhaust system on, which sounded pretty bloody good but made everyone who drove it rag the nuts off the thing.

These are ace. I hope you checked the sills (as much as you can with a bleedin' bodykit covering them up). Values for these must surely rise soon.

250 sounds like a MEGA BARG for this, i'm amazed how much botha the lad had shifting it.

Best of the mid engined Toymotas I reckon, the next one was a bit fat and fugly and the last one was a bit short on storage space since it didn't have a boot of any kind. Quite fancy one of these meself one day. :D

They are fit, really nice to drive! I touched the paint up and even bought a new floppy aerial from Halfords, definitely a keeper for me. :)

This weekend will replace the rear arch and front wing and underseal the car and get it in the exhaust place to fix the middle section of the exhaust (slight blow, but annoying), I haven't had a white car for ages, they're easy to fix, bodywise. :)

Look at the way one of the previous owners has tried to paint the two arches. With brushed on emulsion.:oops: There's a few of these bits on the car - basically any stone chip has been treated with a blob of nice, porous house paint. FFS leave your brush and Dulux in the shed!!

Good purchase. Prices are definitely on the way up ,and I predict a healthy scene tax will apply in a few years

They are also on my must have list. TBH I like the Mk2 as well but prefer this. Top purchase.
