Dodgy gearbox Lancia beta

Struggling to select 5th and reverse (both over to the right). Given that my mechanical abilities are fisherprice at best, am I better off getting it to a mechanic or should I break out a mallet and start hitting things near the gearstick?

FFI, I don't have much of a tool kit, but I do have a plastic folding swiss army style knife complete with spoon, knife and fork, although this was purchased last year so is probably metric.

It is the bushes in the linkage.

The plastic goes brittle and cracks.Genuine parts are made of unobtainium and new old stock will be just as brittle.Try the owners club.

Yup, will be the linkage, not the 'box itself. Only thing I'd add is that it's worth greasing the linkages before you replace - they can be persuaded to yield a bit more life that way. Unfortunately for you, the RHD arrangement for the linkage is approximately one million times more convoluted than the setup in LHD cars. If your mechanical skills aren't the best, it's worth paying someone else to do it.

Thanks for the advice. Had a look at the linkages a couple of days ago and noticed the one that is vertical (closest to front grill) had loads of movement. Bugger
