I think I want a Scirocco

with the Audi gone it's time for new shite and as the title suggests I fancy a Scirocco.So whats the good bits and bad bits on these then?

There's a pant-wettingly nice Mk1 on sale on RR at present. It's not 'shite money' though and also sounds like it's got a kippered HG.

I've had a couple of these, well a Mk1 Storm, and a MK2 GT and GL, and they are grand cars, they handle well, some would say better than a golf..Mk 1's rot, badly, although all the ones left sould be pretty much sorted by now, main faults seem to be head gaskets and gear linkage failure, parts are pretty cheap, as mechanicals are shared with the golf, however body panels, especially fdor Mk 1's are becoming scarce. Mk 2's seem to be the only scene tax exempt 80's VW, bar the Jetta but even these are becoming sought after. Hillman Imp on here has just got a Mk2 at a bargain basement price,

more than likely a Mk2 just for ease of upkeep, time to trawl the bay etc...

hillman imp on 'ere has got a MKII, might be worth PM'ing him for some advice etc.I know that the brakes are very spongy and the steering is a bit vague from driving his, but I think that apart from some damper issues and overheating due to a dodgy fan it's been reliable so far.

No, you could still buy a new Scirocco until 92 / 93. I worked at a VW dealer back in 1995 and we had quite a few K platers coming in for service and such.
