Due to space (or lack of) I am reluctantly parting ways with my Toyota Cressida. As many of you may well know it was on ebay, but the buyer never got in contact, despite bidding in the last 20 seconds.

First registered in 1978, this big yellow part of automotive history accumulated all of 39896 miles on its clock between its first owner buying it, then selling onto its second owner in February 1982 who then laid it up in 1991 at which point it sat for 21 years gathering dust before I acquired it this year and got it back on the road again.

So here it now is, fully operational with MOT (which it passed first time) until next March and tax until September, or £70 extra if you want it, otherwise we are keeping it and cashing it in. If you were at the Retro Rides beach meet then you probably would have seen it then, looking very large and very yellow.

As is fairly obvious, it has patina, there are scabs of rust coming up in various different spots all over the car, but I must stress that apart from a very small hole on the boot lid, it is all surface rust, apart from an area in each rear wheel arch and both front strut tops which was welded for the MOT. The rat look VW boys would kill a man for patina this natural. This car is far more solid then any 70s Toyota has a right to be, especially one that hasn't seen the tarmac for 20 odd years. All the bright work is present, correct and presentable.

The interior is in excellent condition with no rips, tears or wear in the upholstery and all the controls, even the original radio still work. It really is a nice place to sit, with loads of room and some really nice detailing. All lights work, the windows go up and down with ease, the clock tells the time and even the drivers seat lumbar support works.

The engine runs very well once warm, although has a little hesitant patch at low revs and can be slow to start. I am certain this is due to a carburettor issue as once going the engine is smooth and pretty much perfect, with the auto box changing almost unnoticed through all three gears. To get to the beach meet at Brean we undertook a round trip of almost 90 miles with no issue, up the motorway at a nice steady 60MPH.

Work done for the MOT includes the welding, good tyres all round, new brake pads, new ignition components, all fluids changed, and a battery.

I will let the pictures do the rest of the talking, but if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I know when people put stuff for sale on here you get the usual ''Next doors cat just died so I haven't got the funds right now' sort of comments...but honestly, that is lovely and if I had space I would love to own it. I'd respray it the original yellow and I think thats all you need do to get it a minter. The interior looks fab!

The more I hear about ebay, the more I think what a bunch of tossers bid on it. A bloke at work just sold a Celica on Friday. Has the bidder been in touch? Nope. Where do these people get off?

I really hope you find an honest buyer for it, mate.

Love the dash! I've recently had my share of e bay messers, so i sympathise! (AFAIK it is also impossible to leave negative feedback of some kind for a non responsive buyer- quite an annoyance to put it politely!)

Good luck with the sale

I soooooo hope this stays original and does not get slammed with some sort of shower curtain hook hanging off the rear bumper, stretched tyres, a japanese flag rusted on the bonnet and bukakke all over the windscreen. Someone buy it.

Yay it's still alive.

That has made me very happy, this along with the Maxi I was sad to see go. So glad they weren't banger boys who bought it.

It certainly brightened up my journey home to see it. I suspect it may not be staying entirely standard (mention was made of the wheels being banded) but at least it’s still on the road.
