Volksy Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Spotted this in a local supermarket carpark, Its a Honda Insight Hybrid. Had a chat with the lady in the picture, she said her husband imported it from Japan about ten years ago, and she absolutly loves it, apparently its still on its original batteries, and returns aroun 85+ to the gallon! Seems odd then that the Prius struggles to match most 'economial' diesels given it was released a good few years after!
Jazzy Jeff Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 They look very cool, just one slight practicallity issue, the only have two seats!!
Mr_Bo11ox Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 A fiend of mine has one of these, his is a UK model, its a very cool car, he reckons on 80mpg too.
r.welfare Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Quite bonkers looking, these things, but still cool. I thought you never actually "own" the batteries on a hybrid though - they remain the property of the manufacturer? Could be totally wrong, as usual, of course.
Spottedlaurel Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I see a few of what I believe to be the Civic IMA things, always seem to be saloon flavour with almost '80s looking stainless wheel covers. Not sure what MPG they do.

Not sure what MPG they do.You mean one of these??......... Honda Website: "Estimated 45 mpg on the highway"Still not 80mpg is it!!??!!??
pogweasel Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 You mean one of these??......... Honda Website: "Estimated 45 mpg on the highway"Still not 80mpg is it!!??!!??Hey, I've seen a few of those. Seem to be popular with the Grey Brigade round here.45mpg is truly appalling really isn't it? Especially if that is 'constant speed' motoring. I should imagine any current 1.6-litre bland-hatch could match that with ease. On the subject of scrooge-driving, managed to eak an average of 67mpg out of the SprogDiesel wagon last night on a trip to Gatwick. GR8 4 ILLEGAL MINICABBING.
Milford Cubicle Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Wow, I didn't think those Endura TD engines were very efficient!45MPG is pretty wank, but I imagine they pull pretty good MPG in the city where they can utilise their 'leccy power.
Ratdat Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 That 45mpg is almost certainly a US gallon so it more like 54mpg to us. Still hardly spectacular. I've got at least two cars ove 25 years old that could match that.
