Aeroplane Bonnet mascot id???

Chances are it's an accessory - there were loads of these made from the 20's onwards. Altho' the style of plane dates it a bit later.

The unusual thing about it as a bonnet mascot is that it looks like it's been painted rather than chromed. A Google image search brought up a couple of Alvis grilles with similar mascots, but I could find none that perfectly match what you have there. It's a very nice little thing, you should get it a smart little plinth.

Are you sure it was originaly a mascot? Looks to me like it was a toy/model (possibly made for wartime i.d. training?) that someone has adapted.

The shape is a bit vague to be an aircraft recognition model, so I'd say it's a toy/collectable of some sort. Also, I can't imagine many car makers would want to associate themselves with an outmoded deathtrap of an aircraft.....

Hi

I'm sure it's not a toy as it's a heavy brass casting that's been chrome plated, the plating has all but disappeared..

There is a threaded hole for mounting to something in between the blocks on the underside..

Cheers, John :)

The shape of the tailplane, fuselage and wings isn't accurate for a Boulton-Paul Defiant, perhaps it's just a toy or rough model? It doesn't look like any other turret fighter I'm aware of...

They're just ornamental. It might have been mounted on an ashtray or a lamp, or just on a stand. Very little attention to accuracy. I've got a 1930s brass aeroplane loosely based on the Percival Q6. This one is loosely based on a Defiant, but it's not actually claiming to be one.

WW2 Aircraft recognition models are highly acurate and made of plastic. It's certainly not one of those.
