Danblez Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Right, it is MOT time on the camper and every year the emissions are out (apparently) with high CO. The garage always tweaks this (apparently) for a smallish fee. Now at least once it has been left running very lean which I believe isnt good. I am thinking of getting a Gunsons gas tester so I can make sure it is set up properley before I take it. Does anyone have any experience of them? Are they any good?
DSdriver Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 You could try a different MOT station. It sounds like that one is just trying to up the fee for themselves.
Danblez Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 They do seem like a fair garage though to be honest and I know they have adjusted it at least once as it had the pre adjustment readings too. I reckon it would be a handy piece of kit to have too if they are any good.
ashmicro Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Scaryoldcortina of this parish is the man in the know about such things.
clarkey Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 they are good up to a point,.... remember the REAL ones (mot type, garage type) are thousands and measure alot more than your Co... but yes they do work as far as basic CO settings are concerned on old carb'd vehicles that are allowed 3.5%... if its 92 onwards they arent "much" help as they dont measure down fine enough the all important cat lambda and hc and not important yet nox ....you have to let the gunsen stuff warm up for ten mins or so i have noticed before they tell the truth and let it stabilise for a few mins after small adjustments or its like a yo-yo....
garycox Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Angry Dicky has one! It's STILL in my boot actually, I was supposed to post it back in November!
Timewaster Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 I used to sell them, and from the repeat business we got I can assure you that they do not take kindly to being reversed over. Best used as a comparison (i.e is the reading better or worse than before) rather than an accurate readout. A bit like bathroom scales.
