This has been fascinating me since i saw one of these buses abandoned at the entrance of the Tamanrasset camp site in 1983.. its aparently still there.

I never found any book on the bus lines (i did,see below), but there is ample information about  the competing Sahara  expeditions done by Citroen (chain driven autochenilles) 

 

and Renault (6 wheels) in the 1920's that led to the pistes that made the bus lines possible.

There are two very good books about the Citroen expeditions "La croisière des sables" about the 1921/23 Sahara crosssing and "La croisière noire" about the 1924/25 trans Africa expedition, both by Ariane Audouin-Dubreuil. There are various editions, also in German. The book about the expedition through Asia by the same author is also very good reading.

Can I just say thanks to all who post on this thread,and please keep posting.In my opinion this is one of the best threads on here.

Also the first postcard from St.Lo brings back memories of a meal at a brasserie right opposite that spot,on the other side of the road.The menu items were almost all translated into hysterically funny English,the wierdest of which was "Salad of the market gardener and his bulge", whatever that was.

I have ample literature regarding the various Citroen expeditions.

 

What I'm after in particular is anything regarding the scheduled bus services within Africa and from the Middle East to the Far East,

which apparently were well established by the 1920s.

 

Anyway, in the meantime have something much more exotic.

Note how the card focuses on the post war archishite and car park, instead of the wonderful old railway station building and the Cathedral.
