What the? by Michiel V, on Flickr

Aargh! Found this 1971 photo in an image bank last night and I don't know what it is... somehow looks Berkeley-ish with those hinges, but I've got the feeling it's bigger than a Berk. Then again it might be a homebuilt car. Anyone any idea what it might be?

wheel trim looks right for a Berkeley - but that front end is all wrong! Too long, wrong wheel arch shape, wrong headlamp area.

I'd suggest though that it may be a QB Berkeley (one of the extended four seat ones) but with a modified front end. The hump at the back would fit with the spare wheel cover on a QB90.

the QB or foursome was wider and longer than standard - available in B90, B95 and B105 specs (Excelsior triple, RE Super Meteor or Constellation spec)

Whilst the trim looks like a Berkeley item on first glance, I think the hubcap is off a Beetle. The long rear deck with the hump suggests it's rear engined too. I'd put money on this being a one-off homebrew based on a Beetle floorpan and running gear... beyond that, unless you have a time machine I doubt we'll ever be absolutely certain

:-) I'm still saving for a DeLorean.

I gotta admire your eyesight...I can't even see a hubcap

You have to click it to open in Flickr for a full view. Says Berkeley to me as well I must admit.

Ah yes, sorry... my silly widescreen monitor only just shows the whole thing.
