This belongs to the musuem, 1911 Leyland tower wagon that was used into the 50's for tramway maintenance.

It's hip to be square.

I don't normaly bother papping facelift 200/400's but there was something about the giffer-ness of this one.

When this pulled up the driver sat in it while his missus went in the shop and I thought it would have to go un-spotted. When we came out he'd buggered off. RESULT!

AAANND FINALY... I was walking along minding my own business when I glanced down a side street. Could it be true? It was! With a cry of "Well I never, an Alpine"* I left the O/H standing bemused on the corner.

*Or words to that effect.

Just realised I started with an Alpine and finished with one. Anyone would think these things were planned.

I am fanatic for that Talbot Alpine. Would have left a note on the windscreen asking if a sale could be arranged. Or if I might just pop by and bring lunch in exchange for a test drive.

please tell me that Alpine isnt original, apart from a dink and a missing trim that looks OMG RUZT 3

I was initially slightly disappointed when the Alpine turned out to be a Sunbeam one, but the Granada made up for it, until I realised you had saved the genuine* Alpine pics for last!

Is the Atlantis Fish Bar still trading, or has it gone down?

Bloody lovely Alpine though, well spotted!

These are still popping up everywhere I've been recently, particularly saloons.

The R8 200/400 must win the award for the most durable car to come out of Longbridge, even after factoring in the giffer tendency.

Cracking Alpine!! That would be a 1984 Summertime special edition, you an tell by the colour coded gl style wheeltrims and the dealer fit sunroof. It would have originally have had side graphics on the upper wings too. Other than the removal of those and the black painted bumpers and grill it looks fabulously original and has obviously been garaged throughout its life, especially to have any section of lower tailgate left!! :D

By strange coincidence, I’ve just been reading the 21st July 1984 copy of Autocar (like you do!) and the news page carries the following snippet:

“Limited edition Summertime Special versions of the Peugeot Talbot Alpine and Horizon hatchbacks feature colour keyed radiator grille and wheel covers, bodyside tape scheme, sunroof, radio and stereo cassette player and metallic paintwork. Horizon models take Talbot’s 1294cc engine and five-speed gearbox together with wider 5 in. rimmed steel wheels and will be sold for only £4,995 on the road. The Alpines have the current 1592cc power unit and five-speed gearbox and will sell for £5,695 on the road: both prices include free delivery, number plates and 6 months road tax. Sable metallic paintwork with matching mink interior trim is standard for the Horizon with the Alpines in Cascade blue metallic with slate grey interior trim.â€Â
