Spoke to the chap who photographed this bus when it was new(Thats him t the right of the pic - he showed me said photos). I said i bet the current owner would love to see these pics for his resto - and just at that, the owners father showed up to see the pics! Hope the resto goes well - its the only new-to-Highland Ford to have survived.

Posted Image

Engine looks fooked wi the dampness though :(

Posted Image

Before they robbed the Reeve-Burgess Design, Plaxton were busy boshing their Supreme VI onto little Merc L608's. This was a new one to me today.

Posted Image

Not just any old National - these plus elderly examples drafted in from elsewhere helped Lothian win the 'bus war' against First in 2001.

Belter of an air intake! Forget your Barry-boyz guff this was an option on any TK "IIRC"

Wadham Stringer Ford R1115

This was one of a dozen such vehicles bought new by Jersey Motor Transport during the mid 1980s and some of them carried the local Ford (car/truck) Main Dealer's stickers and number plates:

Posted Image

I'd quite like to reproduce these for when I eventually get round to restoring some of my Fiestas. We also had a Ford Retail Dealer in those days:

Posted Image

Posted Image

EDIT: The ones that didn't have La Motte Ford plates had... Sercks! As fitted to a lot of Wadham Stringers. Here's the same bus on Jersey in the 1990s

Hey thats a pretty cool pic to find of the bus in service - where did you find it? I think its current owner would love to see that esp. due to the fact that the livery is visible down the side, might help with its resto.I hope the owners first plan is to bang on some Sercks - they really suit the bus sharp lines 8)

Finally found a decent garage to tackle those jobs on the car I still havent got the confidence to do myself. The owner is a bit of an enthusiast and these were sitting outside, hopefully awaiting restoration:

Hey I have driven this bus! I think it was the only one that they DIDNT use to drive First out of town though, it might have already been yellow by that point. My mate took this pic probably Jan 03, I was actually on board at the time though obscured by the others in this shot.

Nice to see it restored to original.

:D You should pay a visit to the SVBM at Bridgeton, there are probably a few other buses you will recognise!Do Lothian still use these as trainers? I've only seen E-reg Olympians of late being used on this role and I'm in Edinburgh 5 days a week.

Ooooh, buzzes! (I'm a brummie...)Lovin' the Alexander bodywork on some of those. Not surprising to see a bit of local content!

Nah all gone now, would you believe they have been using some of these for a good while now (think its something to do with ABS required on vehicles) dont think they even managed five years' passenger service.

Before (as driven by me in 2003)

After

They still use these for training, I think this was the one I passed my test in

Posted Image

But back then (Dec 2002) they had just come out of service and not repainted yet - taken during a tea break in Livingston

Posted Image

They replaced these - and this is the shite connection! - which is what I was instructed on for the first few days. I think this one's sitting in a field in Eire now. 27 years old at the time, No power steering! (this is reversing practice in the garage yard)

Happy days. OK back on topic now? :)

Here are the pictures I took at Lathalmond on their open weekend last year. I've managed to take precisely 0 pictures of Lothian buses. I'll try harder next year.

I notice in that last picture that theres the rear end of one of the Lothian Darts just creeping in - ironic!

2 stroke triple crankshaft opposed piston 36 (I think) cylinder built in a TRIANGLE formation.....3300 hp....

Sorry if it's stating the obvious, but that's why they're called Deltics. The Greek letter delta is a triangle.

Yup, that would have been one of the 52-reg batch which at the time were absolutely brand spanking new and couldn't half shift. I got a shot in one that had something like 300 miles on the clock and was totally factory-fresh, would be on nearer to 300,000 by now I guess!

Sorry for a pointless bump, but I didnt want to lose my original spotting thread.

Have a Bluebird that I spotted in Cumbernauld earlier this year

IMAG0243.jpg

and a picture of the rot on the rear valance of my Corsa that I found last year. It has now been replaced with fresh metal.

Also just found this Senny drifter, pictured in 2010 at Ingliston

Nice to see a Bluebird, I reckon that despite their popularity as banger racers a few years back their survival rate is probably still better than the equivalent repmobile from the eighties Big Three.
