boobydoo Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 That Alpine is perfect for our resident Talbot manic, get on it boobylicious!. I can't afford nuffink at the moment. That Alpine has got to be the earliest in existence, I'm sure, so really hope it gets saved.

jonny rotbox Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 massive horn for the Yugo but Mrs S would use non surgical techniques to remove my tadger should I even be seen looking at the photos. The E34 however, is rather splendid and tempting. Jonny - how much can a cheap set of boots be sourced for? The size looks a bit unusual for the usual 'Scootaz best EVA remolds' solutionI can check on the prices of tyres from my local rubber vendor if you like? They are normally very competative especially if you like oriental budget type tyres
Ian Mac Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Hi guys. I am the co-founder and magazine editor for the Zastava Yugo Club UK (www.zastava-yugo.co.uk). If anyone hasn't already pointed-out the Yugo is actually a 311 rather than a 513 as mentioned on an earlier post. There are currently only five 311's currently on the road in the UK so the car is definitely worth saving. I recognise the registration number and I think the car used to belong to Charlie Mitchell from Penzance. Charlie was well known in Yugo circles but has unfortunately moved-on to new projects. Regards, Ian Macaulay
Negative Creep Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I'm going to look at the Yugo on Saturday. Anything in particular I should know about them?

scooters Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Nc... Do a search for my 45 review on this site. The steel in yugos were made from is superb quality so horrible rot is rare. Tough fiat derived engines. Check the strut housing but everything else should be ok. Ian is very helpful if you need knowledge etc and the club can source most parts. There is little financial risk in taking on a yugo
Luxobarges_Are_Us Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Welcome to AS, Ian. As you'll undoubtedly have understood by now, there is a lot of love for Zastava's finest on this site.
Guest Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Welcome to AS, Ian. As you'll undoubtedly have understood by now, there is a lot of love for Zastava's finest on this site. Amen to that - better cars than people will have you believe
Ian Mac Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 The main rotting point on the 311 is the box section forward of the rear arch around the rear jacking point (it isn't actually a jacking point but you'll know what I mean when you see it). If you check the photos of my car on the zastava yugo club Facebook group you'll see where I mean. Also inside the rear arch and at the back end of the sill. They also rot around the rear shock absorber top mounts but to check you'd have to remove the boot side trim panels. You may also find cosmetic rust inside the car below the rear side windows around the join of the window aperture seal. The 311 has the old Fiat overhead cam engine so timing belt replacement is critical as if the belt snaps you have a scrap engine on your hands. Check for signs of leakage from the water pump as replacement isn't particularly easy and you may find gearbox oil leaking from the inner driveshaft seals which isn't much of a problem. Seized brake callipers is common but easy enough to fix. The heater controls will almost certainly be seized or broken, the glove box lid may need to be held shut with bluetac and the window winder mechanisms may slip - this is usual Yugo quirkiness so welcome to our world. The other thing to check is the rear suspension bushes - a swine to change and not readily available in the UK but still no reason not to buy the car. Let me know how it goes and if you buy it don't forget to join our club and treat yourself to my editorial skills every three months...!!!! We also old regular events throughout the year and were extremely pleased to have a stand at November's Classic Motor Show at the NEC - there are lots of photos on our website (www.zastava-yugo.co.uk) and our Facebook page. Ian

Ian Mac Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Even if they need work Yugos can be fixed fairly cheaply and they're rare enough to be worthwhile. We also now have a new Spares Secretary who owned a Yugo dealership in the 80's and kept all of his stock when he closed down. We also have excellent contacts in Serbia who can supply more or less everything extremely cheaply. There are less than 60 Yugos of every model left on the road in the UK - rarity doesn't get cheaper than this....
DSdriver Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Yugos - rarity doesn't get cheaper than this....Autoshite's new mission statement?
Mr_Bo11ox Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Yo IanMac! do you know of any other 511's/513's for sale? I'm not that fussed about the 45/55 but i coulf defo find room for a fiat 128 hatchback. I saw a 1981 chrome-bumper yugo for sale in France a couple of years ago for 400€, wish i'd bought it.
Ian Mac Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 The five door versions are few and far between - according to How Many Left there are nine remaining 511's (2 taxed and 7 on SORN) and just two 513's, both on SORN, one of which is owned by me and has covered just 9000 miles from new and is in 'as new' condition. The three door variants don't fare much better - nine remaining 311's (5 taxed and 4 SORN) and no 313's. My 1983 chrome bumper 311 may be for sale shortly but it won't be cheap by Yugo standards - probably around a grand or thereabouts. Ian
RedSparrow Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Hey Ian Mac, post some pictures of your cars, I for one would love to have a look. Also, welcome!
Negative Creep Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Will be heading down in a few hours so I'll keep you updated
Skizzer Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 1. Upload them to Photobucket, Flickr or similar photo sharing site2. Set the privacy options so that anyone with the link or just anyone can see the pictures2. That site will give you a line of code somewhere to post into forums/bulletin boards etc - on Flickr you click on 'Share' then 'Grab the HTML/BBCode' and choose the BBCode option; I can't remember what it is in Photobucket but something similar3. Copy and paste that code into your post on here If you don't have an account on a photo sharing site, you can pm me and I don't mind hosting them for you since it's in such an excellent cause Welcome to Autoshite - we salute your fine work in keeping Zastavas alive!
Taff Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 that Beamer is very tasty, i'm a huge fan of straight six powered uber-cruisers
Negative Creep Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Deposit paid. Now just got to figure out where to keep it....
Mr_Bo11ox Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Great work NC! Ianmac, if you come across a 311 or 511 needing some fettling, i could offer one a home. I'm not after a minter like, ideally therell be a few rust holes on it.
jonny rotbox Posted January 21, 2012 Author Posted January 21, 2012 Yay! The "No Go Zeberdee" sorry I mean Yugo Zastava has found a new owner was nice to meet you NC and Uncle Sylvia, I hope you will be as happy with your new purchase as I am to see it go to someone who will hopefully get it back on the road, the Alpine and BMW still need new homes though!
Negative Creep Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 The Alpine does look nice and needs to be saved. Would have loved to make an offer for that but it would have resulted in the landlady castrating me with rusty shears. Still haven't mentioned that I'm buying this......
Ian Mac Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Excellent news about the Yugo - welcome to the family. We'll look forward to seeing the car at a few East European events hopefully. Does it need much work? We do occasionally learn of cars which have been off the road since before SORN came into being so aren't included in the DVLA / How Many Left stats. For example, we were approached at the NEC by a guy who bought a 311 new in around 1987 which has been off the road for around 20 years, dry stored in a garage. He reckons the car is in good condition, he just didn't bother selling as it had no second hand value. Basically he bought another car and locked the Yugo away. From memory the car is in Southampton and hopefully he'll contact us eventually to see if we want to buy it. Watch this space...
Negative Creep Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Both rear sills will need doing, the seals on the master cylinder are leaking which someone has attempted to fix with chemical metal. Not sure if I'll be able to get away with a new kit or if a whole replacement unit will be needed. Also, what is the bodystyle officially called? Not sure if it would count as a 3 door hatch, liftback or 2 door coupe?
Ian Mac Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Its a three door hatchback. Master cylinders regularly appear on Ebay for around £25 so I wouldn't even bother trying to repair it. Rear sills are common but reasonably easy to fix.
