R9UKE Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 4.0 V6! This is one of the cars on my list! If you were anywhere near me I'd have been round this afternoon for it. I hope it does about 15 MPG?
Des Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 DIBS! I'll have it, and I'm only 40 mins away. I know nothing whatsoever about this model, didn't even know they existed but it's £400 and has a Ford badge, what could possibly go wrong?
KruJoe Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 FFS big shit like this is SO undervalued in the UK. If it were here (Thailand) you could advertise it for 50 times that price and be fighting them off with a stick. Yes, £20,000, no sweat, just as it is!How I wish the importation procedure wasn't so bound up in corruption and red tape. I'd be minted.
gtd2000 Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 ABS kicks in at low speeds on ocassion Check the reluctor rings on the drive shafts, It's possible one or more is cracked and giving a false reading to the ABS system.

If you 've got any connections in Malaysia, it may be worth looking into that (either bringing them in via MY or just selling them there and not bothering with TH).I am told that expats in Malaysia (of which there are loads) are allowed to import one car each completely free of taxes (not sure if they have to keep it for X months before being able to sell on, tho). It's just a case of partnering up with them...
254575 Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 sold - subject to collection. That was quick

Des Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Dear 109landys3Ref Ford Exploder I refer to the above vehicle wot I brought off of you on Saturday 31st December. I just wanted to let you know that I nearly killed myself in it on Sun 1st January.. I got it home on Saturday and went to use it on Sunday and the Engine Management light came on, and I was deafened by the noisy timing chain but thankfully I was in town driving and doing no real speed or I would have caused an OMG! serious accident and possibly killed myself or other road users or pedestrians and massacred innocent kittens, lots of innocent kittens. I had to get the BNP to relay it into a bent garage who had a look out the window of their rancid caravan at it yesterday and advise me that the car Blah Blah Blah....................... The dodgy ringing thieving backstreet pikey cut n' shutter garage advise me that the car needs. A new engine an' that, timing belts, turbos, wotevah, and is going to cost the best part of £1000000 to hammer a smaller socket on it. I took you on your word that Blah, Blah, Blah, totally dangerous, bad, invincible condition and I should never have been let out on the road won't somebody think of the kittehs? I just wanted to let you know the above and my total disappointment in the way I was sold this car. I am an honest guy who would never have done that to anyone in my life. I am more than happy to give you the name of a fat bloke down the pub, who is a total car expert as he hasn't missed an episode of Topgear since 1983, for you to verify all the above.†P.S. I nicked your pen.
warren t claim Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Lolz! Has anyone ever put an Exploder engine in a Capri?
254575 Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 You forgot the bit about the fuel economy not being as claimed Lol
Des Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Please tell me you have the locking key for this, I can't think how I might begin to remove it without the locking key.

254575 Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 Please tell me you have the locking key for this, I can't think how I might begin to remove it without the locking key. Hammer time! It should be in where the bottle jack is. On a metal wire
Des Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Yes, it's there, panic over, STAND DOWN HAMMER. I've clocked up around 350 miles now, with the timing chain rattle keeping me on edge, very intermittent, big clatter when started from cold then immediate silence until warmed up, silent at motorway speeds, comes and goes around town. A splash of gearoil in the sump seemed to improve things a little and later changing the oil made it worse than ever, the clatter / thrashing becoming very loud and worrying at times, so I took a look today, the engine has lots of chains and it does sound like the noisy, or noisiest one is the one I can see through the oil filler, had a looky look with a camera on a bendy stick, found a tensioner plunger thingy, and it unscrews from outside the head, had to dismantle a silly amount to get this view of it, stupid great ECR valve thingy right in the way has a bracket screwed to the head with one little screw, but on top of that is a whacking great housing that carries both the PAS pump and AC chuffer clutter, all that and its 8 feet of hateful spring loaded multi vee belt hell have to come away. And zoomy zoom And here's what comes out, spring loaded plunger with an oil hole between the hex and threads, which is fed by this port in the boss I was surprised by the lack of oil present in the tensioner, but then it was around an hour from the engine last run to getting the thing out, so I suppose it had all drained down, and if it was an oil supply prob it should have rattled continuously. My plan was to see if I could hammer a stronger spring onto the tensioner, but it just wasn't willing to come apart, twatted it as much as I dared, thought about welding a washer or a nut to the nose of the bugger to increase the tension a tad, but it was getting late so I just wound the bugger back in without its copper washer, it's a steel thing screwing into ally, so should seal ok, the washer is about 0.40 thick so should wind in maybe another 3/4 turn, on the drive home a huge improvement, just a slight consistent A series kind of tinkle, will be interesting to see how it sounds from cold in the morning, but I now know it's worth ordering some new tensioners, there's at least a couple more of the things, then see if I need to resort back to thick oil.
