Hi all. Wondered if someone could help me an my brother with transporting a car home from the wolverhampton west midlands area to lichfield staffordshire or suggest someone prehaps that is cheap an shite freindly!

We are in the process of buying a small 80's hatchback but need to find a safe an legal way of transporting it home as it has no tax or mot but does start an run ok an has manual gearbox. We could day insure it an book it for a mot but me an brother think this is maybe too risky as we would pass two police stations on the way home an we both can't afford to get the car impounded an hit with a heavy fine as we are both skint enough as it with buying the car!

Any help or ideas etc would be greatfully recived an just want to get this home without any hassles. Don't wanna say what it is yet untill we have at least closed the deal tomorrow night when we go back round to pay the remaining balance in full. But feel free to guess in the meantime. :)

My "A" Framing abilites are available but I suspect that as I live within the M25 I'd be a tad too far away... Why not MOT it nearer to where you're going to buy it; if it passes, everyone's a winner (you'd have to MOT it eventually anyway, so you might as well do it now and know how bad/good the car is) If it fails, do you want it anyway? Then buy a day's insurance and drive it normally? No self-respecting copper is gonna book you with a valid MOT a valid insurance and the "just sold" log book receipt. You might even go to the trouble of going to the Post Office & getting the form for the tax and fill it in, staple it to the insurance & MOT and add a cheque to the bundle... "Just bought it & I'm off to the Post Office, officer; look, all the papers are here!"

Just a thought.....

Yes i think that would be going a major stretch to make it over this way over just for that especially with the cost of fuel. Thanks though. :)

Well if we couldn't sort something we were thinking of as you said day insuring it an booking it for a mot 5 minutes away from my brothers house in Lichfield at a place were my brothers friend works.

Just that we were worried about if we were stopped by the police as most of them have the ANPR system fitted it would flag up that the car has no mot or tax an if we got some hater then we could end up having the car impounded an then a big fine, points etc then have to pay to get the motor back on top. It's a grey area an we just want to get the car home hassle free. That will teach us for buying it with no tax an mot with you heart instead of your head but when you been car mad all your life it isn't likely to change i hope!

Considering you owned one before, I put my money on it being an Uno.

205?

Mark.

No but i did own the worlds most unrelible 205 about 7 years ago!

Winner. :D

Though was hoping it wouldn't be that easy to guess was i that predictable [ clearly i was ] an i hadn't even had to mention it won car of the year 1984 yet.

Sorry i haven't got any pics up yet as its been dark everytime i had chance to typical.

It's a 1989 G reg Fiat Uno MK1 3DR 45 999cc Breeze ltd edition. [Last of the MK1 uno's ]

Which gives you over the standard 45, metalic paint with colour coded bumpers plus front grille an mirrors.

Wheel trims an opening rear quarter glass which i think is tinted glass like the 45S with posher interior an manual tilt slide sunroof.

Has a 5 speed gearbox which is strange as the standard 45 only had a 4 speed box you had to buy the 45S to get that i assume fiat added this to the spec to help shift them before the MK2 arrived.

More to follow.

That sounds ace :D

My 3 best mates all had G reg mk2 Unos as first cars at 17 and they were ace. They put up with all sorts of abuse, one was tipped on it's side during a foolish Halfords carpark handbrake turn and only required a small scratch touching up and a new wheel for his dad not to find out.

Yer my brother been perving over it last night in his garage were its being stored for the time being. Dont blame him etheir its bloody fantastic! Really pleased with it. This is the forth one now but this time its for keeps i not going to let anything make me sell this like i did with the others in the past it a nice balance because ive had including this one a pair of 3dr's an a pair of 5dr's so even amount of both. Like you say there tough cars an love these they always bring a smile to my face and have the typical italian small revvy engines that love to be driven hard an ive shown over the years alot of bigger cars up an had a lot of fun with them.

This car has got a nice story with it too the car was 1st registered at the Fiat dealership an used as a display car in the showroom were the 1st proper keeper but 2nd owner on the logbook saw it, a elderly women who brought it then the 3rd keeper brought it last year for his wife to learn to drive in but she has never learnt so it been mostly standanding on his drive till me an my brother seen the advert an then brought it. Total mileage now just 27,200!

Needs some TLC but im sure i get that sorted over the next 6-12 months depending how quick i can find a job been 3 months now an no luck so far.

Fingers crossed. :)
