Dacia Duster---5th gear review

Well, I don't know about the subsidy, but 11,900 Euros is only a couple of hundred quid more than 10k.

However, after watching the video, I feel the urge to kick the churnalist in the teeth. First of all, that's nowhere near 'the world's greatest driving road'. It's pretty wide, there isn't much traffic, and the Moroccans seem to be driving pretty sedately. He's going to have some real brown trouser moments if he tries driving around Western Greece, Madeira or the mountains in Malaysia (and that's just the places I've been to- I'm sure there's more extreme stuff in places like Peru or Uygur China/Kazakhstan). He even complains about a coach actually taking a bend in the best way possible in the conditions. Then, he boasts about how amazingly cheap the 10k Duster is while driving behind a W123 which probably is a hand-me-down Albanian cab which went to Tirana as a hand-me-down from Serbia/Greece, where it had been handed down from Dortmund. He's got a 4x4 in an environment full of opportunities for some light off-roading and doesn't even try it. He then goes on to say that most people in the UK 'won't have heard of the Dacia brand'. Not "forgotten" or "associated with poor quality cars".

I really get riled up with this patronising shit...Should never view any TV broadcast again!

I haven't managed to watch it yet, but I can imagine most of it from reading that and that kind of shit does my head in as well.

I propose we hammer a smaller annoying presenter over him. Ideally Hammond.

There are many tests on youtube of the Duster, and its puts in a very respectible performance over all. Its a budget brand, so dont expect top quality fit and finish but the oily bits seem to be ok---I will be checking it out. I have lost so much money on the Koloes that I dont care. Buy something for half the price, worst case its lasts half as long--whats the difference

I saw a Logan on romanian plates at our local retail park. it stood head and shoulders above everything else in the car park (its a surprisingly tall car)

There is loads of room inside and the interior is pretty basic; on the face of it, the Logan looks like something worth having if they can chop it out cheap enough.

My Romanian colleague pronounces the name just like the Russian holiday home. Couple of months back there was a display of these outside the office I was working in. Sat in it, seemed ok. If you want to see what abuse the Dacia Logans put up with, take a weekend trip to Istanbul - the taxis there are pretty much all Logans, with mega km on them. Usually running lpg as well. Bit's of black tape so that the driver doesn't get annoyed by all the warning lights on the dash is very common...

The original Logan only cost US$1069 to manufacture so it should be cheap enough :)

The Logan would probably sell quite well here in the US, if they could seriously undercut the Nissan Versa it would make a good entry vehicle!

Thing is the Nissan Versa is only a snip over £7000 (+T,T&T) in the USA - that's cheaper to start with.. no?

Yes it would be difficult to compete, and as the Versa is built in Mexico to keep the labour costs down. Importing the Logan/Sandero would remove the advantage.
