Shite of the future: 2012 Hyundai Veloster

The Hyundai i40 really is a bonny looking thing. I certainly wouldn't mind experiencing one - in about five years when they're more reasonably priced. The new i30 isn't that bad in the looks department either. I'm not a great fan of the Veloster though. I'd either want a full compliment of back doors or none at all, thanks. So, my problem with today's Hyundai's? The price. Indeed, budget brand they certainly aren't any more.

It's the same story with Kia when it comes to prices. Seen the price for the new Sportage? Ouch. Another brand which no doubt have turned around in recent years to making some desirable products, but getting a little too full of themselves in the pricing ranks. Maybe the prices are there to pay for the five and seven year warranties?

As for the Astra GTC, I'm still undecided. The old Sporthatch was one of the better looking models for many years and remains one of the best FWD cars I've driven. I've yet to drive a GTC but if it's anything like the current Astra, it won't be as sharp and will feel distinctly overweight. Not a fan of the GTC in the looks department. Frumpy and bulbous at the rear and the grille means the bonnet opening is about half a foot back from where I'd expect the bonnet to come down to. Very Renault in that respect...

+1 on the Hyundais, some really smart looking cars in their range now and I certainly wouldn't kick one out of bed.

I'd have an XG30.

I would too but I'm sure if I bought one, I'd think... I should have just bought a Sonata....

IIRC the current Sonata is really popular in the US, starting to worry Honda, Ford, Toyota etc

Ironically, the Sonata and the KIA Optima are both built in the USA so they truly are buying "American" lol
