Been after one of these for a while, I'll have a punt at that price too.

Gary Cox where are you? We've got a mk 1 Clio at work that's pretty smashed up and the tail gate isn't great but I'm pretty sure the brackets there? I'll check the wing mirror when I go in today but I think it's been smashed. Was a dummy car for a Motor Vehicle project that has been abused but work can't find the log book so they can't scrap it!!
Don't suppose the door cards are in good nick? Also looking for an original set of wheels/trims for mine.

Ah, the preying mantis SE version....
Yep SE, I had one, fucking loved it until it lunched it's engine and I had to push it 15 miles home. Dumped in the garage around 2001 god knows what happened to it.
-
Runs through the gears great, seems quite a torquey little motor.
I had hoped to have it in for a re-test today but the trackrod end I had to remove for the steering gaiter is completely borked.
New one ordered for £2.48 delivered because ECP are twats. I ordered the RH spring while they're at a tenner so I'll order a RH track rod end next week once it's MOT's and get the tracking done on it. Then probably new rubber.
Apprentice has offered to sort the dent but after fucking up pretty much every job he's been given including passing me a hammer I think I'll steer him away from it.

HBOL just ordered for the princely sum of £4.88, soon be skinning my knuckles.
Also just remembered it has those terrible screw on terminals, the negative is fine but the positive is just crap so I'll fit a proper clamp, sure I've a couple spare somewhere.

Arches aside, and the fact it's the same colour as some curtains my nan had in 1975, this looks ace
Been sat MOT-less in a garage since 2007/8 though so I reckon there's a reason he hasn't MOT'd it.
I want that sooo much.

Yep I've got to re,move a good part of the interior to get to the panel but It shouldn't take much just hope the trim isn't permanently bananna'd.
So then taking everyone's advice at the end of the month I'll replace the timing belt (I presume it's worth doing the tensioners and water pump at the same time) £40 for a complete kit.
New track rod ends and a new fan belt (I'll actually get that Wednesday £3.80 from ECP).
Fully service engine - filters - oils, runs pretty well so i might leave the plugs for now.
Flush rad and service gearbox (is that just fluid or filters and fluid?).
Brakes are pretty good so I'll leave that for now.
Wipers are still good.
New set of tyres (well part worn at least) and some Renault trims to replace the Ford ones it has.
New exhaust down pipe.
Remove the shonky alarm and just leave the shifter crooklock thing at that should be enough.
Clean the interior and replace the door cards (about £30 the pair delivered on eBay).
Clean engine bay and sort the sunroof out.
Tackle the rust and bodywork although it'll probably be the apprentice doing that (very very tempted to spray it lime green).

I have to admit I've always hoped my first RT would have been more of the Charger flavour.
-
Just ordered another spring whilst they're a tenner, seems daft not to considering the other side isn't probably that far off going as well. I'm determined to drive this down to Stansted and back to Gateshead on Thursday and I just know the other spring will go just to spite me.
-
It looks like they used putty.
Putty kitchen sealant and gaffer tape for extra sturdiness.
How much of a job is the cambelt on one of these, I'll admit that's the one job I've not done on anything and always been a little scared of.

What would technically be the cheapest car to insure in the UK?
I currently don't have any NCB stupidly due to changing cars and insurers so much I've finished a year out with any.
I also have 1 claim (still ongoing despite happening in Aug 2014).
Insurance wise I get raped even my Picasso was £1300 for the year, I've worked out that my current cars can be put on a classic policy for about £100 each but I was want something that'll be cheap on insurance that I can just leave in the corner to help build up my NCB and reduce my outgoings on monthly insurance payments.

Oh yes and the arial has been sealed
-
The sunroof was sealed until the oldman decided to open the bloody thing so that'll be redone. Is it worth cleaning out the drains and fitting a new seal?

MEGALOZ at mentioning an unreliable Jag and buy a Renault automatic.
To be fair though, it looks ace (in an Autoshite way) and was a bargain.
Unreliable Jag, LDV, Citroen and now a Renault, I iz winnar!!!!
-
auto argh but rest seems ok
body damage adv when its only a dent and no holes or sharp edges??
I had to make a structural repair to the wheel arch with gaffer tape til I can get it welded up properly.
-
The presence of a sunroof is disturbing. The immobiliser lives up there in the lining, near the mirror, and is very susceptible to even the slightest water ingress. Apart from that, good luck!
Surprised it has an immobiliser, the key is just a bog standard metal key no plastic or transponder. There does appear to be an after market alarm of some variety badly wired in that will be taken out asap.

I knew he jumped at a ton too eagerly, I love how it has central locking not on a fob where it would be handy but inside the car and the crooklock is awesome.
The radio cover is great, it has a Blaupunkt stereo that looks original as well.
I'm hoping the servicing it's had means it's been looked after, as long as I get a year out of it I'll be happy.
The flip up bonnet is pretty awesome.

Fuck I had hoped I might have scored a reliable vehicle for once. Hopefully the Jag will be back on the road tomorrow after some bodging but I had high hopes for this.
What can go wrong with them?
-
The boss had this taking up space and wanted shot, offered him £100 on the basis of if I put it through an MOT and it wasn't too bad I'd have it a cheap run-around and hopefully get the missus driving.
It's been parked up for about 8 months since he had it and not moved at all.
It's a Mk1 Auto RT 1.4, and a propper old giffer car, currently has 45k on the clock and fully serviced up to 39k and only done a few k between MOTs and services.
Chucked the booster on and it fired straight up, took it for a drive a few times around the yard with the handbrake on to scrub off the brakes and it's brilliant.
I've always hated Renaults but I love this little thing, surprising comfortable and quite nippy even for an auto.
Took the what looked quite new but left for 8 months Bosch battery and bunged it on charge expecting it to be deader than dead but no it's holding and charging and starting it up no problem.
Chucked it in for a discount £20 MOT and It failed, I knew it would I just wasn't sure how bad, I was expecting quite a bit despite not really checking it over or even getting it in the air on the ramps.
And this is what it failed on:
- Vehicle makeRENAULT
- Vehicle modelCLIO
- Date first used9 November 1995
- Fuel typePetrol
- ColourWhite
MOT history of this vehicle- Test date10 February 2016
- Test ResultFail
- Odometer reading45,538 miles
- MOT test number8172 5645 4659
- Reason(s) for failurenearside Steering rack gaiter split (2.2.D.2d)offside Front constant velocity joint gaiter insecure to the extent that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt etc (2.5.C.1a)nearside front coil spring broken (2.4.C.1a)
- Advisory notice item(s)front Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases (7.1.2)rear Shock absorber has slight corrosion to the casing both (2.7.2a)front brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened both (3.5.1i)offside front Tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.E.1)front Anti-roll bar linkage rubber mounting deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement both sides (2.4.G.2)nearside damage to body
So new spring ordered off eBay £9.95 including 24hr delivery and a new steering rack gaiter for £5.49 with delivery. I have a jubilee clip to sort out the CV joint so no other spends at the moment but I will replace the other spring and the track rod ends.
And then sort out the rest of the advisories as I go.
Once that's all done I'll address the little rot and the bad paint, and maybe sort a better interior.
I'll probably try and knock that panel out next week.
Already got a quote from Footman James £124 including adding the old man so hopefully I'll have it on the road by the time I head off to Berlin and I can hopefully take it down to Stansted and back instead of the ever unreliable Jag.
Anyway some photies;
-
I used to have similar symptoms with blocked filters.
-
One of mine was killed due to having a tank full of shit (was almost like tiny grains of silicone) fucking up the whole full system that despite repeated flushing draining and replacing I could not get rid of it. The other after replacing again all the fuel lines and o-rings a month later the immobiliser decided not to co-operate despite what I tried and forum opinions. The bloody thing had already been bypassed so who knows why it wouldn't start.

I've been wanting to swap out my tired old Pug 2.5td out of my LDV Luton for the tired old 300d engine and auto box, now I'm not so sure. Mind you I had similar issues with both my Mercs and I never lost love for them.

Does the 4 meters not break down? I work for a Jag specialist and we struggle to even get 2m body panels shipped let alone 4m.
Shiply would probably be your best bet for something that length.
