DSdriver Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 I won a replacement rear window for the Safari with heating elements (present one is plain glass). The chap has a choice of two but is not sure if either of them work. Can I test with a multimeter or do I have to rig up a wire to the cigar lighter socket or summat?I know there is a guy in Essex who repairs so not too critical and it was cheep enough at 99p.Should be a hoot going to pick it up tomorrow as the seller has a Renault 16. I'll try and get some pics of it with the Safari.
andrew e Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 A continuity test with a multimeter (or a test lamp) will prove there is a circuit from one pin to the other which you will need, but ultimately it will have to be pluged in to see if it works as a demister. I think you can get those granville repair kits for the element still. Leave out over night to get a frost, then hock up a feed to 12v and see what happens.
Albert Ross Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Attach each terminal to a low amp battery charger, leave it a moment, and then breathe out over the glass. You will see if it works..... We switch 'em on at work and do this during PDIs on sold units.
