warren t claim Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 As we all know there are several interesting cars sold around the world that us British can't buy in the UK. We're seen as a nation of badge snobs who like to go to dinner parties to talk about house prices and how clever their kids (Harry and Matilda) are for their age. Sadly, this attitude is denying us the chance to get our hands on one of these. Not perfect by any means but I'm sure there's a market for a cheap family saloon in the UK. On the same theme here's a new Lada. Imagine being able to buy a brand new Lada for about £5000. Yum! So then, what cars unavailable to us at the moment would you like to see sold in Great Britain?
ashmicro Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Hmm. Little to do with badge snobbery methinks. More, I reckon to do with the SMMT and manufacturers wanting to continue to rip-off British car buyers. That Logan would sell by the bucketload.
Guest Len H Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I think the Logan would end up too expensive if it was sold here with all the luxury features current new car buyers need*. I hope the Duster makes it, the commercial version looks excellent.
fiatdaft Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I would like to see these on the uk's roads, but being a bigger fiat it wouldn't sell well! You do know that The uk is one of the cheapest places to buy a car,put fuel in it,tax it and insure it in europe? (awaits flaming)
ashmicro Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I stand corrected FD, but I reckon there's a market out there for well-priced, honest motors. The Koreans have done alright. There'll always be a market out there for cars like the Popular range of the 70's.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Those Fiat Linea things are a real looker I reckon for a small salooon. Theyre only a Punto with a boot are they not? They look 100x better than most booted hatches.
fiatdaft Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Aye grande punto berlina ! (made for and by the indians)
gricer Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 There is zero demand (apart from on here!) for small 4-door saloons in the UK. Dacia will bring the Duster here, and probably the Sandero hatch.
gricer Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 The Linea is also built in Turkey. I've driven it, and you can tell it's engineered for emerging markets road conditions (as is the Logan). So you get a soft ride with lots of suspension travel. Ideal for the potholes of Surrey. Interior finish is a bit spartan compared to West European standards.
