Thanks Tiff - I'm gonna give it a miss.

Up to my scrotm in Pug rear brakes today. Have uncovered an exttraordinary bodge - which explains why the last owner didn't replace the handbrake cables or the rear shoes which came with the car...

lacking the 32 mm deep socket you need to get a breaker bar onto the hub nut (you need to do this to get into the drums) someone has cut a V in the top of the nut (which has also scored the bolt - in an attempt to loosen the nut by angling a cold chisel against it and leathering it with a hammer!!!! :|

being a numpty they did this to both sides rather than waiting to see if it worked with individual sides.

Here's hoping the damage isnt too bad - The scoring is only to the top flanged bit of the nut and it looks like the damage to the threads is minimal - here's hoping I can sort it or it will be an axel off job and I mightt end up buyint that tagora after all!!!

Anyway - already shattered a cheap and nasty 32mm socket so am popping ot to buy a quality one later. I'll get some penetrating spray on it in the meantime

I think what you are seeing is normal? The stub pin has a "v" in it, and the nuts have a soft "flange" on them which is tapped into the "V" to stake the nuts in place.

ahh!

blimey - first time I have ever seen that - shows you the condition of ost of the wecks I have been driving around in for the last 20 years!

:) Pretty much all smaller Pugs and Ciroens have the same setup. If the nuts have been off a few times they can look pretty chewed- replace them if they are fooked.

Give this Solara a miss, I reckon you're gonna overlaod yourself with shite and give yourself a headache.

Plus Boobydoo's old Talbot is now owned by Wuvvum so you'll have difficulty persuading WTC to sell it to you.

Sshhhh!!!! I've just got his £250 deposit via Paypal.

The problem with running one of these cars as a daily is getting parts if it breaks down. Finding parts for my 604 is getting harder and harder. It took me three weeks to get a rear brake caliper rebuild kit posted from the US. I was looking at the exhaust today and I'm pretty sure that if a back box goes I'll have to get it custom made.

While I agree with your point, Shirley it'd be faster to get bits from France as opposed to the US?!?

Spose it says something that the 306 is beating the Solara on AS.

We need more shite, buy the Solara anyway!

the part I needed was on ebay.com

I looked on ebay.fr and it wasn't there

If there is a better way to source parts from France I'd love to hear it (I'm sure there is)

If I were you I'd look for something like "amicale 604" or "amicale peugeots anciennes". I think Mr B speaks very good French, and has had a history of getting shite from there, so he's probably the best person to ask.
