Hawkenbury Classic Car Show

Recommended Posts

I did a google search looking for a local classic car show this Sunday only to find one about 15 minutes from my house! So I busted down in the Metro GTI picking my dad up on route. I headed into Hawenbury, just a few miles outside Maidstone to find a rather hard and lumpy field where the show was held. Luckily I got to display my car so we avoided the entry fee and bounced across the show ground to park next to a rather nice AXGT....

... the AX had a copy of Autocar from 1991 on display under the wiper. It was this AX being roadtested by the magazine back in 1991

Seriously, what possesses people?

Is there something good about PT cruisers that I've missed?

All I know is the absolute biggest wanker* I've ever known had one for a couple of years (eventually reposessed) and was convinced his was RWD until I eventually went out into the car park and showed him specifically how and where it wasn't. His closing gambit was "but it's got traction control", so I gave up after that.

Shame, cos had he not been a colossal fud, his taste in cars (apart from the PT) was epic, and he would have been my real-life best friend. Several volvo 480s, a misery-spec mk5 escort, a handful of 440s, and a doom-blue s40 off the top of my head.

*i hope he's not on here

What's with the little stool behind the Cresta, is the loading sill really that high?

Is the otherwise nice-looking Cortina Mk3 missing some trims around the rear lights?

Laurel looks great. It was for sale in Sidcup earlier this year.

Interesting to see the 260Z 2+2 and Eclat next to each other, arguably both were doing a similar thing at the time. Neat that both are yellow and S-reg.

There is a nasty gash on the N/S/R door. But apart from that it looked good

Bloody 'ell, that Rover 820 "ti" is a bit of an abomination. Seems to be a popular thing amongst Rover 800 owners now to stick on different alloys/spoilers/more badges than you care to count......

Thanks for the other photos though, great stuff. Royal Mail van is a particular favourite.

Isn't that a badly made picnic table?

I fail to see why one would take that greenish Escort van to a show... but good pics and some great cars there!

I'd have the Eclat. I'm not really into sports cars but the Eclat/Elite combo from the 70's have great appeal.

Good job it wasn't raining....that field would have turned into a 'Glastonbury' style quagmire. This could have caused wide spread panic amongst elderly visitors and the mentally inept, as their beige, flat-soled sandals got suckered into the mud.

Escort's probably just been rescued from a Council Estate Mong. Looks like it need a little more than the kiss of life though.

So much stuff to drool over!! I'd kill for the Mk 1 Cortina Gt, and the PA Cresta is a close second. Like the look of the Moggy traveller too - bet it's not got an A series under the bonnet?
