Found a decent carb cleaner

Can't get the decent carcenogenic stuff since the loony leftie greenpeace hippy rugmunchers banned it, Blackdog graffiti remover from the pound shop, smells like paint stripper, stings like a real bitch when it contacts welder tanned forearms and made a nice job of these 60 year old carbs, I reckon it would have made them look quite pretty if I'd left it on longer, (although if I want pretty carbs I'll treat them to some lippy and mascara) not sure I'd use it on anything modern unless the plastic or rubber bits are removed.

I've given these carbs a quick clean and blast from an airline numerous times, the cars been in the workshop for years and every time I need to move it the thing spits, farts and barely runs, decades of varnish deposits in the tank and lines are partially dissolved by modern petrol, leaving nasty green clay like shit blocking everything, the situation improved when I rigged up an electric pump and fuel can, while I have the tank removed for a flushing, so it was time to strip and clean the carbs properly. tried to remove the emulsion tubes from their delicate looking housings in the venturis, they're cemented in by the minging green crud, so got busy with a little tap and did this to draw them out,

First two came out nicely, lots of crud to clean out, looking good until I get to the third, when I undid the air jet that retains the emulsifier, fecking alloy housing snaps off like a carrot.

The break is half black so it's been cracked for some time, probably since the '50s, now I know why the third carb was always the spittiest. Now what do I do, JB Weld? Don't want it getting bumped out and ingested from a speedhump, I start thinking of taking a file to the stub in the choke and reshaping it into a 1/4'' square, then shape the broken off part into a 7mm hex and hammer a small socket inbetween them, but not really enough meat there, instead I went home and started digging in the garage, found a vaguely similar carb, pulled it apart and look what's identical.

Mojo is restored so here's a skanky old Minor to celebrate.

I love anything like that that 'works'. I've been after something to completely flush and engine coolant system for years, and was told denture cleaners tablets / steradent would do it, but it did nothing.

I used descaler on the kettle and it worked in a couple of minutes (water even bubbled up) so I might try some of that.

It also does a fine job on engine parts and under-bonnet ancillaries. Smells lovely, too :)

To be fair the pound shop alloy wheel cleaner I've been getting recently is brilliant.

Not used it in a long while so they may have some 'new improved formula' bollocks but the best choke and carb cleaner out there was always Safety-Kleen's stuff. Expensive (there's a surprise for them) but top drawer stuff and no mistaking.

Hadn't cleaned my wheels since I bought the car five years ago.

Bought some poundshop wheel cleaner and blackstuff restorer, both ace :)

I do find though that the application of these products guarantees rain within five minutes :(

All such products end up getting used as quick start....last week it was electrical contact cleaner..just what was needed to get the yugo going after it ran dry
