Shite accessory

Well, it comes to something when your vehicle is so shite that, despite being taxed and fully legal, the local council sticks one of these on it.

Obviously I think it's quite cool in an ironic sort of way, so have just been driving around with it on the side, like it's some kind of original LDV factory option. That, and the fact it seems to be stuck on with industrial strength glue.

It's even in "Autoshite orange"...

Something along the lines of "This vehicle is on council land and causing an obstruction. It must be moved immediately." It was just in the council car park outside my flat - I've seen the same sticker put on abandoned vehicles left there!

If its like our council you cant put vans in their carparks - even outside you house.

Barnet Council do the same thing! Apparently there's a local bylaw in the Barnet area prohibiting the sale of cars "on the street", so the coucil guys go round and stick a warning sticker on the advert, regardless of whether the car's taxed or not. I suppose it stops the streets of the (until recently) quiet Hertfordshire borough being turned into a huge used car lot, and stops street trading. But a bit unfair on the guy just trying to get rid of his own car for a few quid, though!

Apparently (and some legal eagle might be able to clarify this) if your car advert reads "invitation to tender" as opposed to "for sale" it doesn't count as a "for sale" advert... Although me supposes anyone who appreciates this fine distinction is hardly likely to be buying a car on the street corner!

i'd move that van ASAP

and worry about the legalities later, councils are merciless where the motorist is concerned.

and you dont want to be arguing about which bylaw was breached while your van sits in the pound incurring storage costs

Yep, good point. It's been shifted elsewhere now!
